Kessler C* mouthpiece implies Alto. I don't have the vast experience of these other guys, but I have the true tone, New Aristocrat, and 325xxx THC altos. They seem more like variations on a theme...

Nice Mayer... :)
Woohoo, thread is back after 2 years of being in the grave. I didn't answer then, but the answer will be the same.
JVW Soloist for alto. I'm not sure how he did it, but it's got edge and...
I use a silver plated clarinet FL lig with alto plate. They're just a tiny bit easier to handle in my opinion compared to the underside alto mechanism. :D
That slide mechanism would worry me. I have no idea what it refers to, but vintage parts are not easy to replace. Make sure it's an easy part to replace or else you'll be in an unwanted situation.
I had at one time a Mojobari Modern Soloist, Eric from mouthpiece guys Short Shank soloist, and a JVW long shank soloist. They all played vastly different, from very sweet (modern soloist) to gobs...
Great sound. It seems like you're getting a great vibe with the french style classical mouthpiece. I would recommend you try out a Rousseau NC4 or NC5. I used a NC4 after the s-80 and found it...
I don't see any finish showing under the lacquer in the pictures. It'll be nice to see some better pictures when you post them. I wonder why anyone would lacquer over gold though. Lacquer over...
Art deco style Selmer metal. Gorgeous mouthpiece, and plays fantastic for me. It's different from the Selmer Metal Classics.
I guess that's Dave's nice way of saying he's too manly to fuss about an ounce or two.
J/K! :D
Wouldn't the position of thumbrest and weight distribution and the neck angle have a greater effect than the total weight? Just a thought.
Phil, do you do any soprano mouthpiece work?
Before you commit, I think you should take the one you like for a trial. Bring it to a local tech that knows these horns and see what he thinks. It might cost a little for the tech's time, but...
I have been searching for information regarding #1 necks and unlabeled necks for Buescher Tru Tone Altos. Are there differences? I noticed two different ebay ads mentioning the 1 neck, but I was...
Bring your own sax with you, not just the mouthpiece, next time. Also, you stated all the vintage saxes sounded stuffy while the Cannonball didn't. This seems to indicate poorly set up saxophones...

David Spiegelthal is a forum member that does SS. I'm sending him a crystal piece to fix. Now try to find somebody that'll touch one of those with even a 20 foot pole :)
I'm sure there were good ones as with all the mouthpieces, but I do remember the price at wwbw to be around $18X, with a used one I passed on less than $100 at the time. I just recall the reviews...
