  1. Re: Transposing - band instruments vs alto sax

I have invented exactly what you are looking for. It's called the HornHelper, and it works for all instruments in C (concert pitch), Bb and Eb. Basically you look up the red note that the...

    Re: Vibratosax user experiences

Well, the news from pBone is that they "are hoping to have some news regarding the US and Canada sometime in April." That's from their website. Here in Europe we are still waiting for new supplies...

    Re: Vibratosax user experiences

I read elsewhere that Vibrato are now the exclusive Thai distributor for the Nuvo Clarineo, the successor to the Lyons C Clarinet. If they also went for a deal with the pBone plastic trombone, they...

    New Vibrato website!!!

    The new website is live!

    http://www.vibratosax.com/index.html

There are many gaps, and some of the English needs polishing, but it's there at last! Looks like the production A1 has grey pads...

    Re: Vibratosax user experiences

It's a Casio WK-3000. It has a dedicated drawbar organ function, a bit like a Nord Electro (but a fraction of the cost) and I use it for organ sounds in my 9-piece ska band The Skanx alongside a...

(slightly OT:) Plastic trombone - similar but different...

In all seriousness, it is interesting to look at the A1 launch and compare it with a similar venture which I have been watching, this time (for me at least), closer to home.

    pBone :: the world's...

    Re: Vibratosax user experiences

The problem with rubber saxes as I see it is that they would be too flexible and develop kinks, restricting the airflow.

Hmmm... kinky rubber sax. Where have I heard that before? ;-)

    Re: Vibratosax user experiences

I'd be happy to put a kit together. This sounds like a good way to avoid shipping-damage issues, keep production costs down and ensure final-assembly quality control. Plus it would also be a fun...
  10. Re: New low-tech invention to help musicians to communicate - the HornHelper

It's a long time since I posted on this particular topic - I hope you're still listening!

I've found a company that prints and encapsulates restaurant menu cards of exactly the right size (297 x...

    Re: Vibratosax user experiences

How about a kind of compromise between the naked pad and the one with a rigid disc; a kind of "spider" to apply even pressure across the top surface of the larger pads?

    The Big Question:

OK, the title's a bit pretentious, but it has to be asked...

Is there anything a traditional metal saxophone can do that the Vibrato can't do? This is quite an important consideration...

    Not...

    Re: Vibratosax user experiences

Sadly the black body is likely to remain a feature of the prototypes - the production A1-SG is apparently going to be pearl white with the same gold pads. Still very cool.

    Re: Vibratosax user experiences

A friend of mine just sent me this link: http://www.pbone.co.uk/. It's the trombone equivalent of the Vibrato sax, and it looks and sounds amazing! Like the Vibrato A1, the first production run has...

    Re: Vibratosax user experiences

"Girl power" still seems to be an important force in many markets, particularly toys, consumer durables and musical instruments. I think it might be a good idea to offer the basic A1 ready-fitted...

Piyapat - just as a matter of interest, what colour pads will the A1-SG have as standard? The A1-S looks stunning with its orange-and-white colour scheme, and I like the look of the all-white A1 too....

As a non-saxophonist I would definitely wait until these admittedly minor issues are fixed at source before buying a Vibrato as my first horn. If you buy a new instrument you normally expect it to...

Might I suggest that Vibrato supply their instruments with a suitably-sized Allen key? If you buy a new electric guitar, odds are there will be an Allen key included to adjust the bridge height and...
