I *think* they started with 820xxx. I've never seen an Omega/162/164 with an 800xxx or 810xxx serial number.

Glad you didn't take the advice of the guy who told you to bite the bullet and sell the sax for a Paris model! Obviously that was someone who is not familiar with this particular line of saxes :)

I'm curious... Were there any Selmer USA 9xx,xxx horns or did both the alto and tenor lines jump from 8xx,xxx to 1,xxx,xxx?

With that serial number, it's an AS100, which is pretty much identical to the 162 (Omega). The differences are the pearl oval F#, a plastic thumb rest, slightly less elaborate engraving on the bell...

The only differences between a 162 and an AS100 that I've commonly read about on the net are:
Metal bar F# and pearl oval F#
Metal thumb rest and plastic thumb rest
Rose gold lacquer and lighter...
