    Re: My first synthetic....

It helps if you can try them out at a store and find the right size....didn't care for the tone on the first, second I really liked....from the folks I talked to different reeds of different sizes...

    My first synthetic....

Tried my first Fibracell yesterday....very pleasantly surprised....I play a 7* Philtone Mosaic, tried a 2.5, not quite right, put on a 3 and it worked really well, top to bottom. Wasn't sure I'd...

Re: Looking for a Pentatonic Minor Scale for Alto

Several folks have outlined it for you. Some folks retain these better if they start with one and figure out the rest....

    "So, as already mentioned, min pent = 1 b3 4 5 b7."

    This is the way...

Re: Looking for a Pentatonic Minor Scale for Alto

You want a scale sheet for folks under 18? Sorry, I may still be asleep....the collective wisdom of the forum came through as usual....what you had was a five note scale, as was said, just not...

Re: Looking for a Pentatonic Minor Scale for Alto

Unless I'm still asleep, a major pent scale would be 1,2,3,5,6 (scales steps)

    Re: Phil Tone Custom Meyer?

What was said above....I play a NY Meyer, recently picked up an Aurora, closest I've seen to my piece in years...I also play one of Phil's pieces on tenor (Mosaic) Phil does great work, you'll be...

Re: Odd pleasant surprise- "vintage" reeds?

Interesting thread....a bit more science/biology than I understand, so I'll stick to what I do know. Other than the custom pieces today, mouthpieces back in the 50s., 60s, even 70s were made much...

Re: Odd pleasant surprise- "vintage" reeds?

Reading this thread got me thinking....pulled out a couple boxes of tenor rico royals from the 80's....the only brown ricos I have are soprano, and I still play them (might have 3-4 left)....the RRs...

Re: First jam session, any advice/words of wisdom?

Strong and wrong...play with confidence, if you're going to make a mistake, let er rip... if you play like you're afraid to make a mistake, the best notes will sound bad. Respect the other players,...

    Re: Soft mellow tone

Long tones for sure, getting the concept in your mind, and get a good private instructor that can help make sure your technique is correct. Practice does not make perfect, perfect practice makes...
  14. Re: Metal GAS.... Tribute vs. Legacy....... Robusto Metal vs. Mosaic...

I've played the the Tribute, and the Mosaic is my main piece now, has been for several months. These two can do anything you'd like...I can play R/B on the Mosaic, or lay it back and play Getz...

    Re: Zonda search

By a mile...I usually got 5 out of 5 on the old boxes, at worst 4/5. The new ones I'm lucky if I get 1/5....with the sub strengths, it was easy for me to dial in....the news ones are not as...
  17. Re: Anyone Have PRP Injections for A Worn Knee Joint?? Did They Work?

If we were talking NFL, I'd agree...they try to get 2-3 yrs. MLB is more interested in 3-5+ yrs. I had the PRP elbow injection over a year ago (instead of surgery), and it's still fine (I play...

    Zonda search

Been using Zonda reeds for years on alto and tenor, the last few boxes I bought were not what I've been used to. The old boxes, the flat ones with the window, are what I'm looking for. If anyone...

    Re: Jazz Combo

A couple of suggestions.....when it's time to solo, play quieter...they may turn down to hear you...also, don't overblow, you might develop some bad habits that will adversely affect your tone. I've...
  20. Re: Anyone Have PRP Injections for A Worn Knee Joint?? Did They Work?

Actually, I think it would mean it is effective....million dollar athletes have access to best and most innovative treatments available, and teams rarely waste money on things that don't work. If...
