  1. Re: Anyone "longterm" experience with the action of several taiwanese horns?

I've been playing my Jupiters exclusively for something like 15 years now, so I think I can report on the long term issues.

I'm still playing the same soprano, alto and tenor - the Artist models,...

    Re: Vandoren baritone mpcs

I have two Yanagisawa #9 bari pieces - the metal and hard rubber. Those are for big band/jazz/commercial/shows. I usually use an old Buescher I refaced or my modded B35 for playing classical/concert...

    Re: Vandoren baritone mpcs

Possibly. It certainly needs a longer facing just to be playable, IMO.

I tried mine on an older bass before modifying it, and Ab2 did not exist! If you tried to force the note out it created a...

    Re: Vandoren baritone mpcs

The B35 is the V5 series of classical pieces; the B75 is their "jazz" designated piece.

FWIW, in my B75s (when I was playing them) I took out a good chunk of that baffle, and smoothed the edges...

    Re: Vandoren baritone mpcs

Paul's info about lengthening the facing to make a bass m/p out of a bari piece is correct. Apparently, Vandoren never got the memo. Their bass pieces have an enlarged chamber, but an oddly short...

    Re: Vandoren baritone mpcs

    They're actually different - there's a raised baffle in the B75. The B35 has a flat baffle.

Personally, I'd suggest looking for a Vandoren bass mouthpiece. It's the B35 blank with a larger...
  7. Re: Just bought an Apex 435 Condenser Mic and I am completely lost....

Sounds like the OP might have done better to get a USB mic to start with.

    Re: Favorite classical bari mouthpiece

Vandoren BL4, Vandoren Bass sax m/p opened up to .90", Buescher (also opened up somewhat). Depends on what I feel like on the day. Yanagisawa pieces are good too.

    Re: Doubling Warm ups

One of my favorite section mates in several of the shows I've done at Stratford is Tony Nickels. Tony's actually based in Vancouver - and he's such a good double reed player he ends up doing a lot of...

Re: FS/FT: Artley WOOD Piccolo--GREAT Blower!!

(I know most wooden piccs are reverse-conical, but Artley DID make a wooden picc with a cylindrical bore, and I AM looking for a cylindrical bore picc.

The bore - is it reverse-conical, or cylindrical?

Re: Your opinion of my tone :)

I'd like to hear some articulation. Almost everything in that clip was played with a breath attack, rather than tongued.
  15. Re: Screw fell of my sax and octave key not working when fingering the g key

They are related. As a first time saxophonist, you need to take your horn and the parts that fell off to a repair tech.

Re: Who's the guy who plays everything the same?

The larger basset, Copper, has a fear of just about all musical instruments. He also howls in the car if we have music on the stereo. He does not react to movies, TV, or recordings at home. He does...
