Wow! Very nice! That horn came out great!
How did you do the pads? Did you punch holes in them, or take out the snaps?

I like my metal Otto Link Tone Master 5. I started on a Selmer soloist style C*, but I think the sound is much nicer on the Otto Link as long as the tone is controlled.
The felt is softer than the older stuff, but I expected it would be.
I ironed the felt as hot as I could go without melting or anything to get the felt as flat as possible. I then glued two...
This was much easier than I thought. I had a few felt pads a little thick after the first try, so I had to thin them down to get the key hight right.
The horn had red which was ok, but the felt...
After a few weeks of playing it, my tone is much better and this horn sounds very nice!
It also plays so well.
The Buescher mouthpiece was strange at first, but I've become accustomed to it with...
Soak it in vinegar for a while and use an old toothbrush to clean it. Then rise it clean.
Hot water can make some hard rubber mpc's turn brown.
You mean, get a new Otto Link HR piece refaced? I'm not really sure what refacing does, but there's probably a lot of posts about it... i'll have to go look.
That seems like it might be a good...
For those that play Alto and Tenor, do you prefer the same size tip openings on both mouthpieces? Like a 6* on Alto and a 5 on Tenor, both being .080 (otto link)?
What do you think of an Otto Link Tone Edge hard rubber piece? They appear to have the large, round chamber and I can go for $75.00 which is what they appear to be new.
Excellent info! Thanks for that!
Maybe I should go for a Selmer soloist C* or C**. Do you think that would be a safe choice? I might be able to find one of them cheaply.
edit: I just noticed...
The Protone is looking promising. I don't want to be to hasty though, so I'm checking for some good deals on used mpc's in the marketplace. I just am feeling anxious and want to get one fast.
An excellent suggestion for the budget minded.[/QUOTE]
Sounds good. Can anyone recommend an online store to purchase from?
This will be for my Buescher True Tone Alto. The original Buescher mpc has a great sound but the tip is very closed. Can anyone recommend a new or used mouthpiece with a similar sound as the original...
I really don't know what sound I'm going for. A nice tone is all. I was able to find a Rico Royal metalite for pretty cheap, so I ordered it.
Hopefully the metalite on the true tone is a nice...
I know the Chinese mouthpiece on a True Tone just isn't right, but I really don't want to spend more than $50.00. I could shop ebay for months until I get a good deal, but don't want to wait that...
Anyone have any experience with these? I can get a "gold plated" one for about $40.00 on ebay.
But, do I pick model A# or C#? They have sizes 5-8... which one would be comparable to an Otto Link...
I have a vintage Selmer Soloist style C* mpc for my '64 Zephyr Tenor. I has been with the horn for years and I played on it the whole time. Mostly because I didn't have another mpc to use.
After...
Great info everyone and I love those charts! They're very helpful.
Ah, cool... thanks.
So then the original Buescher True Tone alto mouthpiece must be a C when compared to the Selmer. I think this Buescher mpc is the most closed tip I've ever played on. The sound...
For example, what is the difference between a 5 and a 5*?
I have an Otto Link 5 and a Selmer C*. What does C** mean?
