Re: PMSS-207 - What is it???

I got two. A P. Mauriat System 76 and a Yanagisawa S991 that's gathering dust and should probably go to a good home.

Re: PMSS-207 - What is it???

Hi

I know this model. It is an intermediate soprano by P. Mauriat. I have one myself that I keep as a back up and for outdoor gigs. Picked it up two years ago in Singapore. It's a great little...

Re: Cannonball & Barone bari vs Yamaha 62

If true, that might explain why a couple of folks here reported that they weren't able to find them in Paris.
How does it work that if a saxophone can be sold for example in the...

Re: 66R , 60NS and system 76 differences

I agree with Pete that the neck can make a big difference. Different necks can almost have the same effect as different mouthpieces, though maybe not as profound. That could explain why more...

Poll: Favourite Finish

There are so many finishes available today from traditional gold lacquer to anything nightmarish a custom shop can dream up. I was wondering what most people's favourite finish is.

Re: Keilwerth Shadow vs Mauriat Black Pearl

Hey Guys - I saw you posting about the Black Pearl and thought I'd chime in. Yes - I do play the Black Pearl and love it! I have played the Shadow too - a good horn - but I prefer the sound and feel...

Re: Eric Marienthal Play That Funky Music

Hi

I checked out your setup. I play a 67R too. I noticed you have quite a lot of different mouthpieces. Which one do you recommend for a Eric Marienthal fusion type sound?
-thanks, John...
8. Re: Taiwan-Built Horns - Any Critics Out There?

Well, this is exactly where my skepticism comes from! I owned a Yamaha custom alto for a time and have play-tested some of the tenors. Also have heard players on Yamahas and Yanis. They work fine,...

Re: P.Mauriat 66R/67R club.

Hi Rossbu

Sorry to hear about your bad luck with the alto. I sounds like you had serious leakage on those keys. I'm surprised the tech couldn't fix it. When I got my 67R alto I chose it over quite...

Re: P.Mauriat 66R/67R club.

Hi Telesforo

I'd say it's about time for a Mauriat club. Maybe including other models too. I too have played many Yamaha, Yanagisawa and Selmer saxes before changing to the Mauriat. My main saxes...

Re: P. Mauriat Influence

Wouldn't it be great if Mauriat could add those metal key touches to the RUL? I'm sure it would be a hit amongst RUL fans...I still like my vinatge lacquer, but the RUL is tempting.

Re: Silver Plate or Solid Silver

I agree that a solid silver head joint can yield a better tone on flute. Although there is still not enough scientific evidence to settle this debate, I do feel that different metals and alloys...

Re: Fitting into Rock Band

Hi John

You've got a good idea going about playing bass riffs. Play together with the bass, usually an octave up, this will give a great funky texture. If the keyboard is playing pads, play one of...

P. Mauriat Influence

I read another post about the Mauriat Influence some time ago commenting on the metal key touches, and it said something along the lines of "why didn't any other sax makers think of that?"

...it...

Poll: World Saxophone Conference

What would be the greatest benefit for jazz musicians in going to the World Saxophone Conference?
17. Re: Taiwan/China Saxes: Are they really the same?

Nice! Although Houli is Saxophone city, there are other areas in other parts of the country just off Taipei where you can also find factories
Great!

Where are these places?

18. Re: Taiwan/China Saxes: Are they really the same?

I'm planning on going to the World Sax Conference in Bangkok this year. After that I hope to stop off in Taiwan and go check out what is happening in the Houli area. I'm sure it will be an...

Re: World Saxophone Congress in Bankok

Hi

It all sounds great. Would there be any jazz there. I do know that James Carter will be present. He is just amazing to check out, especially on baritone.

Re: Why are new saxes Unlacquered?

I compared a P.Mauriat 66RUL next to a 66R. They sounded different.

It didn't occur to me that it could be the lacquer, just two different horns.

Then I compared the 66R with another 66R.
