I use an Alto size Vandoren Optimum on both my alto S90 and my Morgan 7M. It fits fine on both and sounds great too.

Chris Vadala plays an S-80 C*....sounds great on jazz stuff. Branford Marsalis has a Romances for Saxophone album that is all soprano, but also plays jazz soprano and his tone sounds very...
On the Yamaha promo video I think Woods had his alto centered while standing.
I play with it to the center and am teaching my little brother, who is now playing sax as well, to do the same....
My Morgan 7M outplays my Meyer G, Meyer 6M, JodyJazz 6M, Ponzol M1, and Super Session E. It's not a whole lot more expensive either...and the sound is incredible...big, fat, sound that can be used...
I played lead alto for three years in high school and had to tell the tenors to play softer for the first year. However, after getting my chops worked up, I was the strongest player in the section....
Which USC are you guys talking about?
South Carolina or Southern California?
Ponzol M1 worked great on my Ref. alto, although the sound was a bit thin. Metal is not a necessity for jazz, as I have found after playing Beechler,
BARI, and the Ponzol. However, I REALLY like my...
Matt Olson at Furman is a UNT guy I believe, and a great player from what I've heard. I grew up about thirty minutes from Furman and got a letter from him wanting me to come up there after he had...
If it was square, sounds like either a Lakey or a Brilhart Ebolin.
I don't own a 'normal' Meyer blank, but I do have a Meyer G Series that is a good mouthpiece, but too bright for my tastes. I have played my teacher's refaced Meyer and it's perfect for me (darker...
I played second alto in the All-State Jazz band in South Carolina, it was a great experience! The clinic was fun, and it was cool because I met a lot of great musicians and learned a lot. I'm...
OK, I LOVE my Ref 54 alto. Nice, full, big, dark warm sound that can definitely be pushed. However, I need it to be a bit more resistant. My problem is the Low B and occasionally C that warble a bit....
I mostly play alto and a little soprano sax, but also own (and try to play) a trumpet, among other wind instruments. My wrist hurts a little after playing trumpet, but not after alto or even tenor....
what caused the drastic change, storing them in liquid or no?
My new Ref 54 is ten times more powerful than the one 875EX I tried. Never played a 992, but the 875 was a major disappointment for me. Weak, airy, strange sound, IMO.
I used a Meyer G 7 instead of a Beechler DI, which I also liked a lot. It played a little smoother, but also thinner up top.
Absolutely amazing....saw this guy with the Roy Hargrove Quintet at the North Texas Jazz Festival this year when I went with my school jazz band. It was one of the best jazz concerts I've been to in...
I didn't really care for the horn at all. I'm not a fan of nickel-plated keys on a lacquer/copper horn, and the black mother of pearl key inlays are extremely unsightly IMO. I do love the Shadow,...
The highest I've ever heard Sanborn play was a D4 on his album Upfront, and I own about ten of his abulms from all eras of his playing. I don't listen to much Warren Hill, and are you sure you don't...
University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. I know a guy there now, and he loves it. Also, the director of the Two O'clock Jazz Band and saxophone professor, was a clinician at a festival last...
