Only if you really know a good technician/lacquer shop. If you are in New Orleans you are lucky to have technicians of the quailty of Palo Tung, I'd discuss it with him.

I checked Saxquest and they are out of stock on the Tenny soprano pieces.

You should not start on Soprano IMO. Its one of the hardest saxophones to play. Alto would be a good starting sax. You can sometimes luck out and get a professional quality sax used and in good shape...
