  1. Re: Have to bring all my instruments on an international flight. How'd you do it?

So it seems that bringing a tenor onboard doesn't cause too much trouble with most airlines. Can anybody recommend a specific airline that they have had good experiences with in the past?
  2. Re: The Chris Potter/Underground documentary is finally out!

It seems that the video has been removed...anybody have some info on this? I'd love to buy it!

Re: Perfect pitch or relative pitch...?

That's interesting, dogster! Are you using your perfect pitch to hear the bassline and your relative pitch to play the sax? I would really like to know how you deal with it!

    Perfect pitch or relative pitch...?

    Hi all,

I'm having a few problems with hearing notes in various contexts and I would like to know if anybody has ever had similar experiences. So here we go, I'll try to explain this as clearly as...
  6. Selmer Reference 54 Tenor Saxophone - on eBay!

I'm selling my Selmer Reference 54 tenor sax on eBay. It was previously owned by a fellow SOTW member (I cannot remember his username), and he bought it from Merlin of SOTW. It...

    Re: Mildew on reeds

I find that hydrogen peroxide works well as said, but what really makes the difference is cleaning your reed guard. I have the Vandoren one and when I soak it in hydrogen peroxide, it looks like when...

Re: Forestone, ii desu ka ?

I have one for tenor and for alto. Sounded ok on alto, a little harder to control volume but an acceptable tone. Not impressed on tenor, hard to control and terrible tone. That's my experience...

    Re: Some good soprano players.

I know he's a saxophonist ''of your time'', but still a great soprano/alto player, Will Vinson.

    Re: Take Five !

A ''flat'' is used to lower a note by half a step. The symbol for a flat is ♭. That's why jaysz wrote down B♭ insted of just writing B : they are not the same note, B♭ is lower than B by half a step....

Re: My New Sax Family Pic - Enjoy

Good lookin' family! Is it just me or is that an F mezzo between the curvy sop and the alto....? If so, that's awesome!
  13. Re: realtive cost of a decent horn. Then and now.

Someone correct me if I am mistaken, but when I was flipping through the pages of an old Conn brochure, I think I recall seeing that the price of a brand-new Chu Berry alto in silver finish was...

Re: Selling my Mark VI soprano.

Matt, you sound wonderful, as usual. I love your sound concept on tenor and on soprano. Good luck with the sale, whoever gets will sure have an amazing soprano!

Have you tried talking to your director? Maybe he thinks that you like his choices of songs so he keeps choosing pop songs. Explain to him privately that you and many other people would rather play...

Re: Is the market kinda slow or is it just me?

It is quite slow, and it seems even slower if you're actually looking to buy a horn. Maybe because it's summer and people are on vacation, not home doing some horn buying / selling....
  19. Re: Is this an appropriate price? 5-digit Mark VI

Interesting that I come across this thread now because I was in the exact same situation as you about 10 days ago. Going to college, in need of a tenor. I had been looking around for quite some time...

    Re: balanced action alto

Are you able to play other altissimo notes? Although F# is not a particularily hard note to play, high A is easier for some people to play. Start with the easier notes.

If you are able to play...
