Gordon,
Thank you for your nice words of encouragement.
When I first realized that I was supporting my lip with my tongue, it was a combination of extremely frustrating, and hopeful. I got the tongueing ok, but jsut NOT what it should be. It sounds like you managed the tongueing issue better than I had.
Two years ago, I played in a flute quartet. (Bozza, Jour d'montagne) sp!) I jsut could NOT get the quick notes to come off light, fluffy and pretty, and I could not figure out why. Best buddy (she of Juilliard, Oberlin and Yale) seemed to think it was easier if it went faster. Yikes. But now I know what I was missing, and am developing on from here.
Once the flute tone got un-fuzzy and pitch-stable without tongue support, I went to piccolo, and WOW! Much better there. The upper register on piccolo is much easier.
My lower lip still shakes (muscles) some days as I warm up on long tones. It sure feels weird.
But anyway, thanks again.
Tibbie
