Thanks, I've been using that signature for almost ten years now. In the early '60's I met Zoot Sims before he left for Russia with Benny Goodman on a State Department tour. I got to spend about 15 minutes chatting with him and was really I pressed that he'd take the time to shoot the breeze with a high school kid. I knew who he was and was in awe of him even though he had an unimpressive handshake and was a half foot shorter than me. The strange thing was that the other guy with him was an alto player whom I didn't know at the time named Phil Woods. Phil was pretty quiet, and Zoot was gushing with enthusiasm over the newly released "Focus" album by Stan Getz. I bought the album the next day along with an Oliver Nelson album featuring Phil Woods... Now I wish I could have gotten to know him better too.
Zoot was my hero.
Does your friend Zoot play sax too? I'm guessing yes, and that the sax came before the name.
