I was replying to your post about PAs, when I noticed you're in Buffalo. I grew up there and just recently found that Kelly Bucheger, another forum member, is also there. The town certainly has changed since I lived there, and it's wild to meet two other Bflo saxists.
I'm living in the Pacific Northwest and am also trying to put together a one-man sax / EWI act. I'd like to ask you a little about how you're approaching it, if it's not an imposition.
Do you sing as well as play?
What kind of tunes are you playing?
Who are you pitching for gigs: bars, parties . . . ?
Do you play any other instruments in the act?
Do you have any promotional youtubes posted?
I'm coming off a long hiatus in playing, and it's taking a lot longer than I'd hoped to get it up and running. Hope yours is coming together faster.
Best wishes, and if you respond, please use my regular email:
The only place where I've actually been able to try one was at a music store in Boston. Since all retailers have some sort of return policy, I would think you could just buy one to try it out. My advice would be to get the Wx5 and the VL70 prom patchmanmusic.com. The Wx5 is much more saxophone-like in play and feel than the EWI. I found the EWI too cumbersome to play and the sounds to be too synthetic.
Hello, my name is Kyle Ohlson, i live in Buffalo(and go to school down in Fredonia) and ive been highly considering getting a yamaha wx5. the only problem is that i have no where that i know of around here that i could try one out! haha i saw your location on one of the ewi threads and thought id give it a go and ask if you knew any places in the area that have ones that i could try out, or players who would let me. My number is (716)341-1634 if it wouldnt be a hassle to chat alittle bit about this. thank you and much appreciated!
