hey Pig, do you think that magnet thing works in your Avatar?
Maybe we just havent figured it out yet? Maybe its like warping gravitational fields so they pull us along and we'll be able to make space ships that go somewhere.
I'm going to go to the store tomorrow and try out as many pieces as I can Bergs - Vandorens, again..... I did really favor the Links more the first time I went. That's why I'm looking into a Link. But this time I'm really going to pay super careful attention and see if what Warburton describes, is what I really think could make the piece great. And maybe that 'stuffy' sound could have accually been a less focused sound. I am use to playing on a more focused sounding mouthpiece.
I have a tone edge gives me depth but might be too extreme. It gives me too much and everything is borderline tubby boomy sounding, if not careful. I played a couple NEW slants and my TE stood up just enough for me not to pay that price difference. And I also tried a few stock STM the other day, they had depth/fatness but they all had that stuffy sound that I remember when I first tried them. It felt like the underdog team fighting for the win but just not getting it. If Eric really does make them play a lot better, then I would really like to give one a shot. Because it feels like those Links really want to be killer pieces!
It's not that I need a piece that's going to play loud. I want a piece that has more character to shape and work with. I currently play on a Jody Jazz Hr, and it works just fine but I think I just to try something different. It feels like I'm a little limited on how far I could push it. Not in terms of volume but in different tonal colors.
How was the Warburton Link? Was it leaning more towards bright/dark? Fat or focused, I'm thinking about trying one but I need one I can shape. My current piece sits well in a big band and an intimate combo, but gets lost in a larger combo and a fusion setting.
Listening to Coltrane's soprano changed my life. Coltrane Live at Newport was my jazz epiphany. I didn't play any instrument at the time and I had zero previous interest in jazz when I walked into a used record store in Bloomington Indiana in the fall of 1971 and My Favorite Things was playing. I bought that used record and I still have it.
Did you get your Link yet?
Hya Magical Pig! would you fancy a trade against a nearly mint Vandoren T55 V16 metal bellbrass. These cost a fortune in UK. I bought it off SOTW member 'Sax-ony'only a few weeks ago but for some reason I dont get on with it. I tried a h/r V16 coupla years ago and had the same problem. Guess I've played on Links for too long to change.
Anyway just a thought.
Regards Mark aka Bopity Funk. BTW these measure at 98--100thou T/O so well within your spec.
Could you send me the tryout version of biab too? I would really appreciate it
Thanks for the offer on BIAB. I'd love to try that version.
