    My SBA alto has better intonation than all the VI and modern Reference I have tried. But the intonation is not deadly locked, it all depends on your ambouchure.

    Try taking way less mouthpiece and forcing a narrow air column. While this may be quite uncomfortable for a bit, see if it improves the response of the horn, although the sound will get small.
