Just looking for opinions. Which mpc sounds better for jazz: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wweMlSiBaCo
I looked for a thread like this but I found anything. Who of you could compare these two horns and what impressions have had?
From long time ago I want to buy a quality soprano, and considering the local market and the possibilities to import one is that I have two options: the first and most "realistic", considering my budget and abilities is a Yamaha YSS-475, an excellent horn labeled as "intermediate", but features of...
I hear that both horns are actually comparable. What do you think?
Ladies and gentemen, boys and girls, children of all ages....welcome...to the MAIN EVENT OF THE EVENING! Standing in the blue corner, weighing in at 210,xxx serial with original lacquer and fresh pads, the reigning and defending champion, the Mark VI alto saxophone!! Standing in the red...
Does anyone know of a big name jazz altoist who plays an SR Tech so I can here what they sound like? Also...I'd be interested in hearing a player who plays on an RPC as well. Thanks!
This thread is based on gandalfe's thread. But, we talk about mouthpieces, i think. All alto mouthpieces i have acquired, based on chronological order i acquired them. (most recent to least recent): (and i still do own all of them...) Beechler Bellite 7 Yamaha 4C Selmer Paris Super...
Which one out of these highly regarded baritone sax mouthpieces do YOU think is the best regarding the points below? 1. Tone 2. Response 3. Reed friendlyness 4. Ligature friendlyness
Hi, I'm a flutist and flute-teacher playing the saxophone. As I'm playing tenor in a big band and want to step up from my old sax (a very clumpsy one) I've decided on buying either Yanagizawa T-991 or Keilwerth Toneking Edition Tenor. But I don't have the opportunity to try them. I would like a...
Please Help me choose one of those 2 options as they are almost same price, the YTSS3 is a model of the yamaha YTS275 http://www.normans.co.uk/p-1790-yamaha-ytss3-tenor-saxophone.aspx http://www.buffet-crampon.com/en/instruments.php?mode=productDetails&pid=734 Thanks in advance...
My Buescher curved soprano has such a nice sound, but the horn won't play in tune until I get an overhaul and extensive intonation work done (which I will eventually). For now, I want a reliable curvy sop to play and sell later after I can overhaul my Buescher (or not if I really like the horn). ...
Hey, I'm new. Anyway, I wanted some advice and possible reviews from different people. You see, I'm a high schooler in texas and recently our band budget was cut and after months of talking to my director I finally made him realize that we need two new tenor saxophones and (much to his distaste)...
I almost afraid to post this due to the naysayers on this forum on expensive mthpcs(Grumps this means you among others). My daughter Hannah, who is 14 years old in 9th grade, has won outstanding woodwind soloist, got 1st chair county band, and won RMF scholarships wants more power for jazz band. She...
Hi, I have a Phil Barone HR Vintage tenor mouthpiece and there is a metal (don't know which model) Phil Barone on Ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Phil-Barone-Tenor-Saxophone-Mouthpiece-7-/170528057708?pt=AU_Instrument_Accessories#ht_500wt_1154) What is the difference in sound between the two? They...
i have a yts 62 with the yamaha 4c mounthpiece. the horn is great but i feel that the upper octave sounds a little airy. does anyone have any mouthpiece suggestions that might give me a fuller, richer, more vibrant tone. i would really apprieciate it:mrgreen:
Greetings all. Well, my time has finally come. I'm moving, most likely into an apartment, and will need something to aid my practicing. I've read about the e-sax mute, and have also read about its hefty price tag. I've also read a little bit about the chinese copy; the sax partner, and its...
Welcome to my latest review. Although things have been extremely hectic recently for me (hence my recent absence), I’m still hoping to get some of these reviews out. This most recent review was a result of Buffet Crampon USA contacting me to test out and write a thorough review on their new line...
Plan to purchase a Guardala tenor mouthpiece. Have read their description of each one. Are the MB 11's as good as they say they are? Have been playing a Dukoff. Thanks, Randy
Really? Are they? Who? Pro, semi-pro, amateur? Why? I've read so much about the quality of the horns coming out of Taiwan. I've played a few, but I'm not ready to cash in my horns (Selmer, Yanagisawa & Yamaha) for a new Taiwanese horn. I'm not opposed to the idea of a Taiwanese...
I've narrowed my search down to a Barone at $2500, a Kessler at $1995, or a Unison at $2500. Any suggestions? The horn is for a small school band program. Thanks!
I currently play the soloist, but I've a lot of great things about the optimum series. What would y'all recommend?
So... I'm looking to buy a used saxophone off of Kijiji and there are currently three horns that have caught my eye within my area. Yamaha YAS-52 - I understand that this is an older horn, but that aside, I know nothing about this make or model. The seller has listed this horn as "very...
Well, I am in search of a new alto mpc (and possibly a new sop mpc as well) as my old faithful Selmer S80 C** finally went kaput. Although I am pretty sure I will never have enough money to buy one of these mpcs by the end of the summer, I still would like to know if I should even consider them. Of...
Just curious, what are the main differences, and which would you prefer?
I'm leaning towards the PM. It's sound is so much richer. When playing the Jupiter right after/before the PM it feels so thin. There is a punchier sound too. Also, personally I don't believe the factory stuff that people say about PM's. Of course they are made in Taiwan, but I don't believe...
Jupiter 547 vs. Yamaha 475 Soprano Sax?? Which one is better? Pros and cons of both, would help. Im not sure which one to get.
I have just found out a saxophone mute called SAX PARTNER through below website: http://www.vibesmusic.com.cn/english Does anyone know about it? Thanks.
In the West particularly, we are brought up to think critically, to analyse things for ourselves and then we form opinions based on this style of thinking. I think it is a great way to approach things so that you don't just blindly accept what you are presented with. Assess the facts, use your own...
Hello, I am looking for a new alto sax mouthpiece, as my S80 C* isn't really doing it for me anymore. Classical. I have looked at the Vandoren V5 A27 and A28, and the Vandoren Optimum AL3 and AL4. I'm not sure which to get, but I'm leaning towards the AL4 at the moment. Just wondering what you all...
I know that these manufacturers are highly respected, and Selmer is the most likely the favorite of the two. But which one makes a better tenor? My friends have told me to just forget the Antigua and just go and buy a selmer. But I'm not exactly sold on that idea. thank you in advance...
Here is the matchup. In the blue corner...the reigning Japanese sax-making champion; the long touted and well-rounded...Yamaha! And in the red corner, the contender, a skilled fighter who has made it to this fight tonight through skilled dedication and continued refinement....Yanagisawa! ...
Which would you choose? A cannonball vintage series vs a selmer of close value? I played a 4000 selmer paris today (not sure of the exact model) and the cannonball vintage had a much clearer tone and overall, was a much better saxophone. What is your opinion?
SOUND ! - differences -- SBA-alto>vs<60sSuper20>vs<Conn26m pros&cons
My 60's King Cleveland is noticeably lighter than my 60's Conn 10M. Where do other vintage tenors fall on the scale of light to heavy?
Anyone get a chance to compare the Jody Jazz DV/DVNY with any of the Drake Ceramics bari pieces?
Does anybody know the differences of those two models (for tenor) in terms of baffle, chamber, side-walls, sound etc.? I'm talking about the old Handmade-ones. And when did Mr. Guardala start making the Artist-models? Here you can read early 80's, then you hear mid 90's. Thanks!
i am looking for a more focused sounding Tenor any reccomandations (beside Selmer ) ? thanks Tom
is it right that a Buescher Aristocrat is as a american horn in sound the closest to a Selmer ?? both are small bore saxes.......
Sorry if this sounds like a rant. During the week i had a guy contact me about a horn i have for sale, namely a 1937 6M alto which i have more or less rebuilt --get the picture killer horn --sent him pics etc. This guy said he was in his 50's and a beginner and had been advised to get a quality...
Hey everyone, Long time, no post. Real life had taken over and pretty much removed me from the forum, which is a good thing in many regards. However, I had an experience the other day and felt compelled to report it on the forum. A friend of mine stopped by the other day, a fellow...
As I have been looking around for inexpensive saxes, the name "maxtone" has been coming along for quite some time. They are described as great horns, or rather the beast of the best for the price. One of my pet peeves (well, not too much) is when someone is reviewing a horn; mostly horns made in...
What are the differences between the (current production) Larry Teal and Soloist mouthpieces for alto? I think they're both advertised as classical mouthpieces but I'm not sure what the differences actually are
I was thinking about play testing one of these through WWBW, and I'm just curious if anyone knows if the gold mouthpiece is much different than the silver piece. Do they create a different sound, or is it just a different colored metal mouthpiece? Thanks
This is my first review and I'm infinitely unqualified compared to others on this forum, so take everything here with a grain of salt. I played 10 years during school through college, took 30 years off, now have been back at it for eight months. I practice about 2 hours daily, play in a small...
I feel it may be time to look for a new sop mpc (I sold my last one. The tip opening was getting a bit small for me). In general, these two mpcs seemed to be the best of the best (although I might not be able to afford either) and I just wanted some additional input on these two specimens. In...
which horn is better? i'm looking at either renting to buy the jupiter or buying the kessler, which option would give me the best horn/value?? anyone know if Kessler has a financing plan?? Thanks in advance, Matthew
Does anyone have experience with all of these mouthpieces? I've ordered them on the mouthpiece trial program from wwbw. I'd be very interested in opinions and reed types and strengths.
I have a newer Metal link 7 for tenor saxophone. Looking to trade it for a rubber piece. Have an older Metal Link opened to an 8* so no need for the #7. Anyone want to trade? -Joshua
