Note that some H-Coufs were made by Armstrong ...
This is a bit of the Keilwerth history that I've found scattered across a couple of websites. It's incomplete. I'll be publishing the full version on my website in a bit. Please add to it or dispute it if you have further information. ======= By 1920, Johann Keilwerth, Julius' father, was...
Not sure if these have been mentioned yet, just came across them. Interesting insight to Keilwerth's process. Part 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VoRh-0vd9H0 Part 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6NnYTSDfyOM

It's probably been asked to death here, but what molded case fits an SX90 alto? Thanks
Hi, There is a alto sax on sale at the local site here that is supposed to be KING IMPERIAL and the serial number is 10XXX.Silver plated. "the best of the world" is written at the bell.Rolled tonholes. I have tryed to get info of KING Imperial sax but I can´t find anything. Please look at the...
My current setup is an SX-90R black nickel alto, diamond series nickel neck, and a ponzol M2, 100 mouthpiece. I don't know exactly how to describe the sound of what I'm looking for. It blends well, fine for playing 2nd alto, but when I slide over to play lead, I feel it really doesn't sit on top...
H. Couf Royalist Alto Sax Info Serial# 68462 manufacturing date? I have been playing this sax since 1970 and just curious about when, where it was built. Thank you for your assistance!
According to the announcement from sax.co.uk, Julius Keilwerth has ceased production in Germany. Hope it will resume its business soon........... http://www.sax.co.uk/home.htm "We have just learnt the sad news that the famous Keilwerth saxophone factory in Germany has ceased production. ...
Yes, that's the deal. For all of us, I hope this means we'll be seeing some great new horns coming out of Europe. According to the official press release: "The new Buffet Crampon Deutschland GMBH will continue the W. Schreiber and Julius Keilwerth brands which are part of the European musical...
I have an SX-90 serial number 103xxx. There are several posts regarding difficulties in getting SX-90 and other Keilwerth sopranos to play the palm keys notes easily. This is comforting, as about the only mouthpiece I've had any luck with in this regard is a Super Session E (played with a Rico SJ...
I'm very interested to hear the impressions of anyone who has had a chance to play both of these models. I generally prefer a fixed neck and am currently trying an SX90 that is very impressive. But I'd like to know how people like the SX90-II as well and which neck they prefer on it.
I am after a powerful, cutting sound with my Superba II alto. I am using a Lakey 4*3 and Rousseau Jazz metal 6, and I don't think either of them really bring out the projection and fluidity that this horn is capable of. Please share your setup.
I am the proud new owner of a Couf Superba 1 (yipee, I hope!) Should arrive in a week or so. It comes with a gig bag, so I will probably be looking for some kind of hard case. Any suggestions for cases (preferably contour style) that will fit. Thanks, Peter
Hey, I work as a sax tech at a music store. Yesterday our Buffet rep came in to talk to us about what's going on with Buffet, and told us that recently the Keilwerth factory plant was closed, and hasn't been making new saxophones for some time now!! I was shocked to hear this news, and find it...
I am wondering what people opinions are on the keilwerth brand.
I heard a rumor Friday (apparently originating from a Keilwerth artist) that Schreiber & Keilwerth Musikinstrumente GmbH has gone belly-up. Something to do with Schreiber kept marketing the E11 after they severed ties with Buffet, so Buffet sued them and won (sounded sketchy though on the details)....
Impressions? Feedback Please?
I have a Bundy Special alto I've been doubling on. I am mainly a clarinet and tenor player. I have only been playing this instrument seriously for about six months now. Running on the 'budget horn' model, I've equipped it with a Brilhart #3 (5 digit serial number) that I picked up for 15 bucks. ...
Where are the Keilwerth Peter Ponzol players ? I played one of these a couple years ago at Tenor Madness and it was awsome ! I haven't seen one since.
Ive been planning on trying one of these out, but just want to know if anyone else has.
I'm looking for a backup alto and interested in the Couf Superba (I & II) horns because of their exc reputation and price point. How is their keywork compared to let's say a Mark VI? Also, does anyone know if a King Tempo I is identical to a Couf Superba II? Both are supposed to be Keilwerth...
This (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350374126481&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT) is just wrong ... :yikes!:
Can these be ordered from Keilwerth or does anybody here have any for sale? (alto or tenor)
Keilwerth introduced a new soprano model in Frankfurt, developed in conjunction with David Liebman. I am interested in feedback and comments from people who got a chance to play it, hear it being played, or simply held it and checked it out. Any comments welcome, thanks.
Anyone know anything about an H Couf Tenor "Jubilee" which might be from 1964 and maybe it just preceded the Superba I . Rolled tone holes . I'm wondering how good these are. Someone is selling one locally for $800 and I'm trying to help my nephew by a horn.
...I just see them so rarely, and clearly Yanagisawa has surpassed Keilwerth in terms of presence in North America. I see a lot more Cannonballs, Antiguas, and P. Mauriats than Keilwerths. Curious about thoughts.
I have a Keilwerth Tenor Shadow and I'm trying to figure out if the right hand thumb rest is adjustable. Thanks for any help you can provide. (The screw on my thumb rest is extremely tight, and I don't want to damage the horn messing with something I shouldn't.) ps I emailed this question...
hi i have an armstrong soprano the sn is 82947 it is labelled 3090 and elkhart ind somebody want to sell me as a keilwerth stencil i think that it is the armstrong heritage that is like keilwerth right? somebody can help me identify this instrument and his value? thanks
Keilwerth has announced that they are bringing back the SX90 straight tone hole alto and tenor in an "Edition ToneKing". At this time, these will only be available in gold lacquer. Availability will start in April at the earliest. Alto:...
The Search engine King can't find answers to his magical, musical question, "how does the sound, ergos, etc of the EXs compare to the SXs? I would really appreciate comments from anyone who has played these saxes, alto or tenor. Thanks.
Did the Superba I baritones have rolled tone holes? If so, were they soldered or drawn? Any other differences? How do they compare to the SX90 or SX90Rs? Anyone selling a low Bb?
Does anybody know where one can find a new or used after-market Keilweth diamond series neck in the US? It seems nobody ever carried them, and the company has a new US distributor, so anybody who has dealt with the company almost doesn't even want to bother. I've also contacted a company in the...
hello i am want to buy a alto saxophone and i found amati horn silver plated i think thats the super classic deluxe or tha classic i dont know but i want to ask few questions 1 . amati horns are play and bulit like the keilwerth horns ? 2 . that horn for a life time or student horn ?
Does the "ST 90" on the Keilwerth saxophones always mean it's a student horn? Or does it mean something else?
Ok, Altissimo is always a bit more difficult on Keilwerths, but I'm getting along pretty well with the whole range - except for that damn Bb. I play a SX90 R Tenor and have tried a lot of different Bb fingerings, including everything that's in the woodwind fingering guide. None of them really works...
Long time listner, first time caller. All of you have been really helpful to me over the years. I was just curious, long ago Keilwerth used to over differnet neck and bell options than they do now. I purchased a 106xxx SX90R tenor with sterling neck and bell, but have never seen or heard of any one...
I recently acquired a used SX90R that appears to have a sterling silver body (based on engraving that reads "Sterling" underneath the plastic left hand thumb rest). The bell of the horn also "looks like" sterling silver, but I cannot tell for sure (this unscientific opinion is based on the shine...
A friend has a Keilwerth tenor stencil he bought at an estate auction that he is williing to sell to me. Its serial is 67XXX, it does not have high f#. It has lacquer finish with nickel keys. Body and neck are in excellent condition. No pull down on the neck. No rolled tone holes, no solder...
I was browsing sax pics when I came across this http://saxpics.com/?v=gal&a=5182 Could someone tell me more about this horn? It looks like a shadow without the black nickel.
Ok so it seems alot of people i meet dont even know Keilwerth is a brand if they play sax and are not apart of this forum. Maybe this is just isolated to Florida, was my first thought but then i took a trip to New Orleans, Louisiana and ran into a similar situation with some local players. Why is...
Keilwerth has issued a formal press release about their recent "insolvency" (what people have been referring to as a bankruptcy recently). I have posted it online here. http://www.kesslermusic.com/keilwerth/KeilwerthInsolv.pdf In the end, business is continuing with Keilwerth.
Hi all. Looking to buy a bari for my son. He likes the SX90 low A. I have located one locally for asking price $5000. It is black, one small dent (size of a dime), some lacquer wear, etc. buts looks nice and my son likes how it plays. I am looking for feedback on the price of this horn. I...
I will not be going to Frankfurt, but am very curious to know what they do in the show. If you're there, and get to see them, please post your impression and comments! Thanks
So I'm hoping a few people can chime in here and help me out. I bought this tenor new in 2003 (just before they changed to the czech made horns). I've just taken it in for a re-pad and my repairer says in an ideal world he would replace the springs that are rusting away and change the hard corks...
I was viewing the sx90 tenors at Kessler's Music, and noticed the Vintage cost more than the standard lacquer SX90. Since the Vintage has less preparations, buffing...., done to it, should it not cost less than the standard lacquer SX90? Just a curious observation.
I've been looking around trying to find a place that stocks professional Keilwerths, which has has been almost impossible since it seems like most places have stopped carrying them. In this process, I heard from one music store owner that about a month ago the American Keilwerth distributor had...
is the hohner president a student model or a pro? or is it some where in the middle? and what are your thoughts on this horn?
Hi, Does anyone have one of these, made in Kraslice Czekoslovakia but Stamped JK best in the world, without a lucite keyguard? I was wondering whether they are at all similar to the German-made horns of the same company (especially if all tonekings, even from Amati, have a high F#) and if they seem...
hello. Well i think enough time has passed to have enough owners who own keilwerths Top line up(Shadow and Nickel silver horns). So kinda like how all those exotic cars have fan clubs i figured here would be a great place to start one. on these saxophones. Post here which horn you use and what you...
From the serial # (27xxx) it seems to be a Series lll from 1957 or 1958. Plastic clothes guard, silver metal guard on bell keys. Has "The Best ..." stamp on the back. Front of the bell has "Julius Keilwerth" engraved in script (longhand) at a downward angle. A crown above that. But no "Tone King"...
I am in the process of getting a used Keilwerth SX90R alto, but the horn has Noyek resos installed. Now a few years ago I tried 2 (same brand/model) horns that had Noyeks and I just didn't like the one with the Noyeks for some reason. I have read all over the fourm about how people swear there...
