What is/are your vintage Conn Setup(s)? Year(s)? Model(s)? Finish? Pads & Resonators?
Which of these do you own? :) There have been other clubs like this, so hey what the heck? Post your finish that you have on it as well please. Thank you. Oh, and pix as well. _________ Ian
Hello from belgium (land of adolphe SAX) !! Just a message to thank you all for the differents advices . I've a CONN Tranny since one year and I play it long and long hours... More than my SSELMER S II... Best intonation, really "living" sound, great projection... I've just bought a new...
I was looking at Quinntheeskimo's (eBay handle) gold Conn and found a stunning engraving on the bell. Now I've seen naked lady engravings on many Conn's and some other saxes, but this one appeared to be rather nice. So I thought I'd start a thread for some of the better pictures of the...
Which is the best vintage conn?
The best Conns are which model? and the Tone, playability compared to Beuscher is better some say. I say a 30M is a dream! But How many were made? I have the 1922 Beuscher price list which has a Conn as one of their sales models Frz
I recently acquired this lovely early (269K-1935) 26M Connqueror as a little brother to my 1941 30M. In any event, one of the most appealing traits is the neck, which I believe is what is referred to as a "New York" neck, though not marked as such in any way. It is an over-the-top design, but has...
for people who have moved the neckstrap ring, where did you move it? I need to make this alteration on a horn for a customer, and I have never done this on a 10m, what is the standard place to move the neckstrap ring? I think it should be moved down, but not sure how much.
I'm not an expert on Alto Saxes, so forgive me but, I saw this old Conn alto sitting in an antique store today and thought it looked different compared to most altos ive seen, especially the neck. Ill post some pictures. Any info on this sax would be great.
Wednesday night I was surprised with a 12M and I am so impressed. My wife and mother got it for me for my birthday. I had been watching this horn at a local shop and almost bought it myself a few weeks ago but the sale of one of my tenors fell through so the $$ just weren't there. I have been...
Hi , I'm a tenor and soprano player , I play professionally and I use 70% tenor and 30% soprano. Since the requests for bari increased I'm planning to buy one bari. A friend of mine gave me a Conn 12 M bari for a super long trial period (he will be abroad for 2 months):serial number is C21096....
So I picked up one of these odd ducks a couple of weeks ago. I can play a few tunes on it OK, but I'm wondering if there is a way to get chromatic notes without doing the half-hole thing. When I cover half a tone hole, the sound gets really fuzzy/stuffy. Are there any magic fingerings that work...
I am just been told of a Conn tenor sax, gold plate, for sale. Serial is 166xxx It has a T above the serial an L below the serial It is being described as a Chu Going for about £550
Check it out... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfsTRA5tBmQ&feature=channel
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0jJSuwqDSA Does anything sound better than Dex on a 10M? Just goes to show you can do it all on a 10M
Hey-- has anyone tried putting modern (yamaha 23) keywork on a conn 6m or 10m? I'm thinking about going for it...
Although I am not sure it is worth trying, I have a very old Conn bari sax (serial around 10500). I am not sure about the model... could be a Wonder or a New Invention. It looks a bit funny because the top curves the other way around (towards the right if you look at it from the back as if playing...
Hi, I'm interested in this offer: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270612103304&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT in theory is a 1950 made Conn SN: 885906 how much can be this instrument worth of money?
I'm a big fan of vintage Conn saxophones (see signature below). In fact, my first tenor saxophone was my 1948 10M. It has a wonderful warm sound that many of us have come to love. My only issue is the intonation issues it has when I experiment with mouthpieces. I found a Conn Comet mouthpiece...
Hi everyone, I've been lurking on the site for a few years but am just now posting..... I just wanted to share my baby. It's nothing special compared to some of the horns that other members have, but I love its warm, ritch sound. Also, I feel that it has a very good energy as I purchased it from...
Hi all well I just got a 1948 6M...love it but what is up with old conns and the neck strap hook position...where it is seems to want to make my mpc knock out my teeth....who out there has moved theres and what has been the result ..and how far down...... Thanks Steve
Being out of work for 14 months makes a person think about things he normally would not think about. I noticed a couple of instances were Conn saxophones without RTH started popping up on eBay. Being obsessive compulsive AND anal retentive, I started to wonder, when was the last RTH Conn sax made...
I play a Pan American tenor. I think it's a Conn Stencil. Anyone know anything about these horns? I found this horn which looks about the same but, the guy got the serial numbers from a Conn brass serial list (cornets, etc). Putting it at 1947, but I feel it could be earlier. Serial number is...
I'm looking at a Conn 6m tenor, and the guy says the serial number is 816808, when would that have been made? My best guess is late 60's, early 70's. Also, what would this thing be like as far as keywork, intonation, and "features" be like. I know it would't have rolled tone holes or that...
Hi, I just bought this instrument http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130383350953&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT I'm a pianist, but I used to play sax like 10 years a go, and I'm learning jazz too and I decided I'd like to play sax too again, so let me know if I did a good choice...
Hi I have been playing the saxophone for 7 years. And this is my first post here so hello to everyone. My friend wants to sell this Conn Chu tenor to me. I believe the year is 1926 and it is gold-plated (burnished) He told me it is a Naked Lady Artist's Special one. He wants $3,500 for it. Is...
Today, I got a chance to look at a C-mel stencil that was sold under the name JW York and sons. It's ALL original, aside from the pads, and is in the kind of shape that one would be surprised at with a 3 year old Yamaha that's been marched with, and those things are BULLET-PROOF! Anyways, this has...
Hi there! This thought probably ocurred to some of you: to know which famous or maybe not so famous but great tenor players that play/played Conn saxophones. The criteria here would be that this player has a myspace or website with audio samples so that we can check his/her sound. I would start...
One of my bugaboos (and some of my favorite players) are "obsolete" saxes - C melodies, sopranos, basses - made in the post-1920s era, when they were no longer considered all that useful or desirable. Sometimes you get an idea when the market slowed down. This curved soprano...
I found this on eBay this morning..... http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Conn-Tenor-Saxophone-Silver-Gold-Bb-vi-/260599631639?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cacf2cf17 It says the horn is a 1906. It looks very similar to another horn that just sold that was from 1915. The 1915...
Hello, I have searched saxpics.com and the forum a little bit. I have what appears to be a conn "shooting star" or "director" alto. It has a serial number K-35903 I am pretty much wondering if this is a decent horn worth a repair and a after market neck as a backup. I am trying to find...
I'm looking for published materials on the history of the Conn Company and more specifically the development and demise of the Conn F Mezzo soprano. Any suggestions?
I knew I hadn't dreamed about a Conn-o-sax copy, the post was made by Heckelophonist, in the misc. section.I have sent a message enquiring about this possibility. It shoul be easy to find he has only made four posts
On the 2 10m's i've played on (263xxx and 282xxx), my mouthpieces (Meyer HR, Dukoff D8 and Guardala MBII) are quite far out on neck cork. I mean, like only 1/2" of cork and mouthpiece come in contact. It's not a problem when there is fresh cork, but when the cork breaks in, the mouthpiece become...
As some of you might know, I purchased a Conn 10M RTH from around 1939 a few months ago. It has an absolutely stunning sound and wonderful action. Pics here http://forum.saxontheweb.net/album.php?albumid=250 . :D There is the problem of intonation. When I tested horns (I tried about 15 of them)...
Look at around 1:05 or so....the engravings are pretty buffed looking. Hmmmmm so what about relacquers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0jJSuwqDSA&feature=player_embedded#!
So I ran across a Conn Silver Plated Alto. I didn't think to ask what the actual model of the horn was, though I'm not sure that the saleswoman would have really known either way. Patent Dec. 8th 1914, It's s/n was 61xxx (1921). Based off, http://www.saxpics.com/?v=ser&manID=3 , I believe...
This question has been in my mind for a while...and I'm pretty bored just sitting around waiting to heal this week. [rolleyes] ...and yes, I have used the 'search forum' function for the last hour in the Conn and Tenor forums. It seems I've read that the Asian sax manufacturers (for many...
My wife is a teacher at a local high school. The band director she works with sent a few older saxes home with her in hopes I could find out some things about them as the school is interested in possibly selling them and using the proceeds for other needs. The only one I can't put a value on is...
Just bought a conn 6m from the 1950's for $175. Was this a good deal? Lacquer looked alright, underslung neck, ladyface, just no rolled tone holes. :)
I seem to have ran across a Conn that I rather like, however I would like to know more about it. Silver plated, On the bell: Patd Dec 8, 1914 III9954 C 134946 L The guy owning the sax says it's from 1924, but based off of www.conn-selmer.com/content/resources/serialno.php I see that...
So lets suppose to there was a Conn 6M Nak'd Lady '55-'56 (Alto) for sale for $300.00. The seller says the horn "is in good shape... needs a few pads replaced, and could use a little bit of adjustment." On the pictures, I can't see any dents anywhere, but a little scratchy. I've heard...
Hi I recently acquired the 1924 Pre Chu Conn Alto and I need your advice on what would be the good setup of MPC, ligature and reed for it. Thanks for any input.
Take a look at this -- looks like a freaky hack of Conn and Martin tenor parts into one horn: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290455001612&ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:US:1123 There's a lot of crazy on this horn, from the neck on down.
This is 1959 CONN 10M Satin Silver finish with nickel plated keys and double-socket neck. Has Gator case with it. Serial# 634XXX Can anyone give me a rough ballpark on what I could get for this horn? I've no idea of it's value... I'm not selling it because it plays so well I just want to...
HI there I just got this off that auction site .. and I am trying to figure out exactly what it is that I have , I have couroused many of the photo collections and can't seem to find where this fits.. heres one photo and I have put more in an album , if there is any other point of view I should...
Hi guys/gals, I've inherited a Conn 6M Alto I'd like to sell. I believe the serial number places it at about 1934. The number is M262054A above it the roman numeral III9954 appears below the patent stamp. I'll put some photos up soon. Any one interested? -Jon :)
I am thinking of repading my split bell key tranny tenor to the roopads and was wondering about the resonators. Does anyone have that wavy resonators (the airtight one and not the flat one) on their Conn tenor? If so, can you tell me how it is, negative, positive results? Thanks in advance.
Lookit: Like pre-history, even. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=390138771542&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:US:1123
So I've got about 5 6M's at my bench right now and I've spent damn near the entire day measuring the necks trying to figure out the difference between the ones marked VIII and the later ones. Bottom line so far is that I think the micro-tuning neck was a great idea, but other than that, I'm not...
The listing says this is a 10M but the serial number and the year dated to 1929. I thought that they did not make M-series until 1934. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190414498173&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123
Do you have your vintage Conn's alternate forked Eb key permanently closed (via reversed spring or cork) or still in working condition? After looking at a picture of Lester Young's New Wonder series I tenor, I noticed he had his fixed closed. I was surprised by this and just figured he would have...
I wasn't sure where to post this. But decided that my problem may be a possible Conn alto, fussy mouthpiece issue, so I'm posting my question here. I have had my 1930 Trany alto for over a month now, and I have been getting to know it. Experimenting with ligatures and reeds, but keeping the...
Hi I recently acquired an old 1924 Pre Chu alto and also 1926 Chu tenor. They came without any cases. I want to find a hardshell case for them. What would be the best case for them? Thanks for any advice.
Does anybody know the difference between a Wonder or New Invention Conn saxophone? I've got a Tenor dated from 1914, sn#29xxx with the union label. It's satin silver with gold key work, bell wash, and engraving embellishment. Just curious if it's a Wonder or a New Invention.
