I've been experimenting with alot fo mouthpieces. I recently I've been playing a A17 and is very happy with the result, but I can't seem to carry a solo in Band, so i've been looking eslewhere. I tried a S90 170 and is pretty happy, but I recieved the C* (s80)i ordered from WWBW, and man i can say i got a good one. I have 4 C*s and all of them look differnt around the rails and tips, and of course played very differently. the particular C* i got form wwbw has gold, orangish letterings as oppose to gold, yellowy letterings. Somehow this one, with the orangish letterings is aLOT better. Has anybody experienced this??? It looks like it's from one of those reference horns, but dont they come with Super sessions?? I'm just very happy to get this particular C*!! It has the power, the sound and the tuning, and response is pretty good!

I have a late True Tone alto that really likes the C*. I don't use it on my other altos--(Holton Rudy, Bundy II, King Cleveland)--just the TT. I have an origninal style short-shank Buescher piece, and a later white Aristo piece, but its the S80 C* that really matches up well with the horn and the way I play.

I only bought the C* I am currently playing on because I went through about 8 of them plus a couple soloists and it was the one with the best sound. Also it has the best looking rails and tips and I am sure this is probably why.

I can't do square chambers, at least on alto, they're to bland for me. That's why I don't play my Jody jazz classic or my C* anymore.
