I have been browsing a little in order to find a 3rd tenor for my empty sax stand.
currently have a selmer mark VI 128.xxx
and a yamaha yts 62
But i simply need a vintage conn/martin/buescher.
I have stumpled on this add ( its i danish but you could probably deduct the essential numbers from the text )

The seller is saying it is a 10M from 1953, but the serial is something called
k.06866 ( what the?? ) and I cant find the naked lady on the bell either ( i thought they kept the lady until 1958? )
To sum up is this a genuine conn 10M or some sort fake edition.
sincerely

It's a very late 10M, with the underslung neck. These play well, but I have no idea what the price relates to in US Dollars, so I can't offer suggestion as to whether or not it is a good buy.

the price translates to approximately 2070$
"late 10M" so the 1953 could be a possibility?

I love these later Conn 10M horns, but that price is outrageous. You could save more than half the amount by finding a choice one in the US for sale (they are pretty commonly available here for less than a grand), and paying for postage and insurance to wherever you are located (I'm assuming Europe).
This "K" in the serial number indicates that the horn dates to 1967, not '57. The underslung octave key/double socket neck, sheet metal keyguards, and the lack of a pentagon/lady face in the bell engraving confirms this. Still very much a great playing horn, and these were made in the same Elkhart IN plant up until the very end of the road.

Thx You guys!
This forum is a a lifesaver.
I will give this one a miss, and see what i can find across the pond.-
I can see that both junkdude and a couple of other shops have quite a selection in the martin, conn, buescher genre. Better prices and more vintage ( which is what i´m after )

Followup in this thread.
Seing as the seller has terminal cancer ( he was approx 70 ), he phoned me up and said that if i still wanted it he had sliced the price in half ( he needed the money, and saw no point in waiting )
I ended up paying 990$ ( because there is some work with some cork and some pads around the octave key that needs fixing )with a bag and a yamaha 4C mpc

Your needed repairs sound minor, and you didn't have to endure shipping and insurance charges. I'd say you did quite well for your $990.
I also agree with Saxismyaxe; the 1968 Conn 10M I had was a monster after I had some minor repairs done on it. Because I had two other equally fantastic tenors already, I sold my late 10M for slightly more than you paid for yours (I did have to ship it, though).
Do I miss it? Yes, of course; it played very well. Did I need it? No, my Buescher 156 and Martin Handcraft Comm 1 more than fulfill my tenor needs. The 10M was a fun horn to play, nevertheless.

I just need to do a follow up...............
Having played the sax for around a month now. What a wonderful piece of brass!! The ergos are still weird but the sound....THE SOUND!
From now on i can clearly recommend a late 10M for anyone wanting a bang for the buck sax with a sound like the 1940´es. When you compare the prices on these saxes it just puzzles me why they are in so little demand..
I could go on praising but i will spend the time playing my 10M instead.- :)
