Alto, Tenor, ? Is it the double socket type or regular (later) model? You can always buy an aftermarket modern neck but it will cost more than the horn.

Never buy an old horn without a neck unless you've already got the replacement neck all lined up; especially for horns this old. That's why they go for so cheap. That early model probably also lacks the single socket neck and triple ring strap hook that pretty much began the time when these old Kings got good.

I would have to mildly disagree. I bought a late Zephyr on e-bay for $200 w/no neck, knowing full well I would either have to source one, or go aftermarket. I chose aftermarket, and bought a Gloger Handkraft. Best decision I made! Yeah, it cost a fortune, and I waited a year for it (about $900 or so for the neck), but it was well worth it! The horns a screamer, witha fast action, and fairly comfortable feel (it will take some getting used to). Controlling it in Orchestra is a challenge, but take in stage for Jazz or Rock, and that's where it shines! Though it is partial to open tip, long baffle mouthpieces.
