I received Jim's CD "Along the Way" about a week ago and have been enjoying it ever since. Jim plays tenor and sop in a deceptively relaxed manner - his technique never seems overstated or pushed, his tone, attack, time, and use of dynamics is something that I wish more people could and would do. Jim's original compositions share billing with tunes by Berlin, Duke, Coleman, and Wilder to make a most satisfying mix. The musicians on his recording - Ethen Herr and Steve Meyerson (piano), Eric Wills (bass), and Quinn Blandford (bass) - are all top quality and lend their talents to tasteful ensemble playing.

Check out his website at http://www.jimsaltzman.com/ .

I rank Jim's CD as my best buy this year. Yes, I paid for my copy and no, he didn't ask me to review it. I do this of my own volition and it represents my personal views.

Thanks Jim!

Wow--immaculate, classic, phenomenal saxophone, the exact sound I could listen to for hours. Amazing stuff--I hope to be at your level someday, but that is going to be a LONG way off:)
