Which bari mouthpiece, from your experience, will produce a sound closest to Mulligan's.

I´ve got a Charles Bay "Mulligan" edition that comes pretty close.

I really like my new S-90 200 facing. A little darker than the S-80s.

I actually play a Greiffenhagen Vandoren V5 with a .105" tip opening. Junkdude sells these pieces, which Erik turns into a double chamber piece like the no longer available Morgan Double Chamber bari piece. It works great on my vintage Martin bari.

its actually possible..if you naturally play on like a Vandoren 3 reed, take out a Vandoren 5 reed and a mouthpiece with a really small opening. The combination of a free blowing mouthpiece and a smooth, but hard reed will give you a great tone for cool jazz, close to the great Mulligan.

I can get a pretty good Mulligan-ish sound on my Berg Larsen 130. Isn't less about the mouthpiece and more about the amount of transcribing the player does?

Sound is all about concept. But If you've got the right concept, playing Mulligan's set-up couldn't hurt. The 50's/60's era Mulligan mouthpiece was an MC Gregory. He later played a Hollywood Gale which was also made by MC Gregory. Apparently, Gale was Mr. Gergory's daughter's name.

I think a garden-variety Meyer could be good too, and even a rubber Link.

As someone who has only recently started to play Bari sax, I've got to say that the Yanagisawa 7 HR mouthpiece I'm using is really nice. I've gotten compliments on my tone from my band mates and I have to say that listening to myself in recording I like the sound I am able to get as well. Its facing curve allows low notes to come our really easy; however, notes above palm key D seem to be a little harder, but are reasonably voiced. Having said that, I would like to try some other pieces so I have a Meyer 6M and a Otto Link 6 on order. Based on a previous poll about Bari setups, I would have to say that a lot of people seem to play Berg Larsons; however, I hear that the quality control on these pieces is often not up to snuff. Would love to try one after it has been looked at by a refacer though.
