View Full Version : Morgan piece on soprano
Does anyone use a Ralph Morgan piece on soprano? I'm currently using a hard rubber Yani piece on my curved Yani sop and it plays pretty nice but I'd like to try one or two other pieces before I decide to settle on the Yani piece for the long haul. I like Ralph's clarinet pieces and his J8 sop piece is the same tip (.075") as my Yani #9.

A Morgan J8 sop. piece from WW/BW showed up at my house the other day. But I sent it back without trying it. The piece was slightly too big for the neck cork on my Yani curvy. I could have tightened it with a bit of paper but I couldn't find a lig to fit. A Bari brand lig was close enough for a tryout but I decided the heck with it. If I ended up wanting to go with the Morgan I'd have to have the neck re-corked and find a properly fitting lig. so I decided to leave well enough alone since the the Yani #9 piece I'm now using plays pretty well. Maybe in the future if Yani starts selling after-maket 990 series necks I'll get one (silver plate) and then give the Morgan a try. So if I have to have the neck re-corked I can still use the Yani piece with the original neck. Maybe a Bonade sop. lig would fit the Morgan piece. The Bonade clarinet lig is a perfect fit for my Morgan J7 clarinet piece.

You might also want to consider the Tenney HR Link piece.
I've thought about trying a HR Link. What exactly is the Tenney Link?

I have a one-of-a-kind Morgan 6C mouthpiece for my soprano. Normally Ralph's classical pieces are only sold in the 1C, 2C, 3C range. I bought this mpc secondhand from Roger Aldridge (who posts here), who bought it from Ralph.
Anyway, I like it very much, although I don't think my soprano skills are really what they'd need to be to fully explore the mpc.
If my alto and tenor Morgan pieces ever arrive, I'll have my whole range covered, including my C-melody. Woo-hoo!

The Tenney Link is a new production HR Link, selected by Doc Tenney, then "blueprinted", or brought to perfect specs. I think they're available in a 7 tip, which as I remember is .065. You can usually find then at Saxquest.com. They're great players.
