I am planning to order a Meyer "G" series mouthpiece (facing 5M) for my alto. What brand of reed and what strength would you recommend? As I buy the reeds via mail order, I do not have any chance to experiment with them.

Well, everyone is different, but I use Vandoren ZZ 3 1/2's on my Meyer (also 5M). What reeds have you been using now?

Thanks for your reply. Currently, I use Vandoren Java 2.5 on both Vandoren Java Jumbo (facing A 45) and on Runyon XL (Facing 6). They both are loud and bright mouthpieces, and now I am hoping to have a mellow and soft tone with the Meyer.

I tried one out at the music store and used a Hemke #3. That seemed like a good reed for that mouthpiece to me.

Thanks so much. By using reed comparison charts I can find equivalent strengths for other brand of reeds. May I ask whether you found the mouthpiece itself satisfactory or not?
Thanks and regards from Turkey,
