....Just where exactly is my expensive Mark VI when you take it to your local shop...your good friend Joe,the tech writes up a tag...slides the case on a shelf amongst a mess of other horns (especially this time of year with school repairs)...and then you wonder what your chances of claiming your losses would be if the horn disappeared...frightening..

..A bit over the top...
I would try to schedule my repairs within a known time period..minimize the horn's time in the shop.
And avoid original vintage cases..ie..put your 5 digit VI tenor in a YTS-23 case...

I make my guy repair fix what is wrong while I wait. I don't think he wants me to leave it there either.
I try to fix the little stuff myself to avoid leaving it there.
My tenor is almost exactly at the opposite extreme of that "mint" MarkVI. No lacquer, dings, the bottom of the bow has more bumps than a fat women's butt, but I've still only played one horn I liked better. It was Richie Kamuca's old MarkVI. Definitely the best horn I have ever tried.
