After about an 18 month hiatus, the Morgan HR Soprano mpcs are available again in all sizes. Ralph had experienced a number of problems obtaining the blanks to makes these, but the supply problems have been resolved and production has resumed. Check out www.junkdude.com if you have further interest.

Ralph Morgan passed away last year. The mouthpiece guys are doing Morgan's now, I believe.

This thread is from 2003.

Man, don't do this to me!!! I was all excited thinking that although he had passed away, whoever was doing them now were able to recreate the Jazz models. That was, until I saw the date. How dissappointing.

As said above, the Morgan pieces are available from JunkDude, being made by the Mouthpiece Guys. The pieces I've had from them are very good.

JunkDude website says:
Sadly, Ralph Morgan passed away on August 23, 2007. His legacy, company and products will be continued by Ralph's long-time employees and his widow Georgia Morgan. Georgia will contine to serve as the owner and CEO of the company.

Erik Greiffenhagen has been with the company for over 23 years and has designed several of the mouthpieces the company produces. John MacQueen has been with the company for over 17 years. Brian Powell has been with the company for over 12 years. Mark Delozier has been with the company for a year. These four represent a combined half-century of experience producing some of the best mouthpieces ever made. They are all craftsmen and musicians and are committed to continuing the production of the Morgan Mouthpieces using the same materials and processes they have always used.

The Vintage Morgan soprano pieces are just $95 which is a great price - and they are shown as currently available.

These are the Vintage ones. I am referring to the old "Jazz" models for soprano that have not been available for a long time. I play the vintage model with my soprano and it is a very good one. I've just always wanted to get my hands on one of the old Jazz models.

Sorry - I didn't realise they were different. I've got a Vintage model for soprano and I just imagined that this was another name for the Jazz model. What are the differences ?

PS Could the Mouthpiece Guys at JunkDude still have access to the design of the Jazz model and maybe make you one up ? I know that they do lots of special chamber and baffle work.

I was told a couple years ago they required a special blank that Ralph could no longer get his hands on. To be honest, I have no idea what the difference it. I play and prefer the Jazz models over the vintage on my Alto and Tenor, so I just assumed it would be the same with the soprano.

The bottom line though, is that the vintage are great pieces, especially since they are still priced very low through Junkdude.

Blessings, Marshall

The title of the thread is about Morgan HR soprano pieces (which are available), although recent discussion seems to have concentrated on the Jazz model.

Unlessthey have started using different blanks, the Vintage and Protone models are not HR they do contain about 30% HR put the original Morgans which this thread was started about, which for some reason are being referred to as the JAZZ models were 100% HR and were different than the VINTAGE and PROTONE.

Also only Erik from the Mouthpiece Guys is involved in the production of Morgans. Brian Powell is too busy with running the Mouthpiece Guys and producing Mouthpiece Cafe mouthpieces. He left the Morgan Company several months ago.

Thanks for the information, Matt. That explains about the stuff that they say (and what they don't say) on the JunkDude website. But it's still saying that Brian Powell is with the Morgan company.
