Yes, Im flooding the forum with questions new and old but I need a bit of guidance.

It seems Bari Reeds require surrendering your first born. How do the Legere reeds perform and last on Bari. Im considering traditional mouthpieces...not high baffle pieces.

Ive stuck with cane all these years but at those prices Im considering synthetic.

thanks
Phil

It's all I've been using on bari for several years now.

There's clips on my page if you want to hear some samples.

They work fine and give a smooth sound, but in my experience you want to start maybe a full number softer than a Rico brand cane reed, a half strength softer than Vandorens. Legere bari reeds are seriously stiff.

Legere reeds are OK with bari but I found them to be less bright and responsive than cane (like all the other formats, I have them for alto, tenor and baritone). In my case I chose them because I have a Vandoren B75 which is considerably wider than the average baritone reed, so I got myself a contrabass clarinet reed. Nowadays, I understood that (due to the Benedikt Eppelsheim intervention, at least, so I gather) baritone reeds are longer than they use to be, so it is probably worth buying one from a fresh batch.

I like Fibracells on bari. They should be really cheap, if you like them. They last a long time. They're more edgy than the Legere however.

I tried Fibracells on bari for a bit, but found it dull sounding compared to a good cane reed. I was trying on a medium hard, so maybe a softer one is a little closer to cane? I never did wear the Fibracell out though :)

I haven't tried Legere or Hahn yet though.

I have played Legere and Fibracell reeds on bari and I preferred the Fibracells. The Legere got really resistant down low and it was tough to get out the low notes. The Fibracell responded faster and was brighter. I found this odd because I love Legeres on alto and hate Fibracells.
