I have a Kessler alto and tenor, one aquired through ebay, the other through SOTW. On the bell below the Kessler logo is stamped a four digit number.

The alto is stamped 0503 and the tenor is stamped 0509.

I'm guessing this is a date of manufacture? March, 2005 and September 2005 respectively? Or are these just lot numbers. They don't seem to have any relationship to the serial numbers which are stamped in the normal location.

Very nice horns by the way if you have seen my other posts. Both in the brushed antique finish - a really attention grabbing matched set of saxes.

You are correct that they are manufacture dates.

After the 0509 batch, we had them move the date stamp to above the serial number on the horns.
