Has anyone played any of the Rovner sop mpc's, particularly the Wilkerson model? I was curious how they play, given the large window.

I've been playing one of these in size 6 as my regular piece for several years now. Usually use a Fibracell 3 reed. I think the sound I am getting is warm, and it can be pushed into a little brightness easily. It depends on how you play it.
The baffle is a low roll/curve, not too radical at all; chamber square. Reeds last a long time(fibracell, what can I say , they work for me 8) ) even Java's! The long window is interesting, but it's purpose is unclear to me, other than that I keep playing this piece 'cause it doesn't seem to fight me!
You get a nice ligature & cap with a new one.

I play a 7 on a YSS-675 and like it. I tried several rubber mouthpiece & could NOT get any of them to play the lower registers in tune or hold the note on this pro horn. After playing 6 rubber mouthpieces I tried the Rovner 7 and was so pleased to hear my new horn playing right that I bought it without trying the other 3 metal mouthpieces that were waiting in their boxes. (plus, I was in a hurry to get to a gig)

With this mouthpiece the horn's intonation is perfect top to bottom and it's fairly versatile with bending notes. It does seem too bright for a lot of songs. Perhaps a 6 would have been a better choice. Sometime in the near future I'll be shopping for something more mellow.
