I switched to LaVoz reeds about 2 mos ago. I noticed that after the reeds become wet, the La Voz writing starts to turn greenish(not mold) and i think it bleeds onto my mouthpiece. looks like it tarnishes the gold plating. I know it may sound weird but anyone else notice this?

I have used LaVoz reeds on the alto for a long time, but I have a HR mpc.
How do you wet your reeds - do you soak the entire reed? I try to find a narrow glass that is about 1.5 inches wide, and then fill it up with water only to 1.5 inches deep. The reed sits in the water at about a 45 degree angle, and this makes it so the thick half of the reed (where the writing is) never gets soaked.

I dont soak my reeds. I wet it in my mouth and play. Of course the entire reed is eventually going to get wet from playing. And the LaVoz seems to bleed green. The writing seems to be in a brown color but i noticed after my gig that the back of the reed is turning a greenish tint.

I also use LaVoz, but on a HR mpc. Does the whole box do this, or just one reed? If it's just one reed, it might be just a bad reed. If it's the whole box, it might be just a bad box. :) If it bothers you and is just one or two of the reeds, then I would throw them out. But if it is all of them, I would suggest getting a fresh new box and move on.

That sounds weird. The LaVoz reeds I use for tenor don't have any ink writing on them. The LaVoz logo is - I think - burnt down in the reed. So I don't see how that would "bleed green". I know older LaVoz reeds used to have ink writing on them - I guess that's the kind you've been using - and they probably changed to another method to print their logo for that very issue you're having.

My reeds turn green too, although it's a reaction with the bare brass table on my mouthpiece, not unlike the green spots which occaisionally form on my naked conn, verdigris, I think it's called.

Its the new LaVoz, and looks like a stamp kinda thang. And i have a Jody Jazz DV. All i know, is that the reed looks green but not like mold. And, my DV appears to have goldplating coming off. Maybe they dont have to do with one another. Maybe they do. No clue.
The LaVoz did turn green before any plating started coming off. Thought maybe it could have contributed to the plating coming off unless others have had JodyJazz DV problems with it turning black by where the reed sits (under the rovener lig) and rails.
