I saw Fathead in concert last year around Christmas. I also went to a master's class he had at Vanderbilt. He's a great guy. Really nice. He signed my old sax. :)
At the concert, he played alto, tenor, and flute. I wouldn't be surprised he played bari sax too. He's a talented guy.

He played baritone on the Ray Charles tune "Greenbacks", from 1955, and it was his first solo on one of Ray's records. I don't know where else he might have played it, and he definitely doesn't play it now.

If you want to call him a "baritone player" in addition to tenor player, alto player et al, go ahead, but to my mind he most likely only played baritone because Ray needed a baritone player, and as soon as the tenor chair opened up he switched, and most likely never played the baritone again. With that said, how about this picture of Donald Wilkerson, Ray and Fathead on bari.

Well, Maceo Parker entered James Browns band on bari, but he is by know means a bari player.

Hes not too bad on Alto either !
Skylark - the transcription is in that good old Harry Miedema Alto Styles n Analysis book that was published through Downbeat - an influence of Bird and Stitt and although I am unqualified to say.....personally Buster Smith - who influenced a lot of people - I am going to have to check him out via the Atlantic Album The Legendary Buster Smith and old 78s w Joe Turner /Pete Johnson .
Incidentally I heard some sides of the Kansas City Alto Player Harlan Leonard on Alto w the Blue Devils Band and I thought that his playing and concept of intonation was propably an influence on BIRD.
But David Newman has played all of the horns Alto,Tenor ... beautifully from Swing thru Bebop and Soul - real Soul!
