I just tried a box of Zonda for tenor in strength 3, sub strength G. Nice reeds.

But they were a bit to hard. 3 of them could be ok after the breaking in procedure, and two were to hard for me. Should I try a sub strength F instead? Or is the change to another sub strength not noticeable? Maybe a 2.5 E would be better? I normally use RSJ 3M or LaVoz MH.

I play on Zonda 3.5K. I find that closest to RJS 4M which is my close second choice for a reed. Zondas take a little longer to break in just by playing. I find they also last longer and the tone changes into into a brighter core closer to a RJS, it almost never just dies.

I would buy singles reeds if possible and try all the 3 and 2.5 substrengths and see if anything grabs your attention. I once purchased at once all the substrengths in complete boxes to try out a ton of different setups. Zondas are more flexable than a blue box vandoren, and they have more physical bamboo heart to them. They are the only reed that has THE tone for me on all tenor saxes. Their is lots of sonic depth to them.

The substrengths feel does make itself apparent. I thought I liked a 3.5J reed until the Zondas 3.5K came along.

Thanks Saxland.

Unfortunately I can't buy them in shops here in Denmark, so I have to order complete boxes from Reeds Direct in UK.

I will buy a box of 2.5E and a 3F to try out.

A nice summer to you all!
