Funny-coloured reed question

Just bought half a box of Vandoren Java #3s but on the wood of some (esp. far right reed on attachment) is a partly weird dark brown colour.

That same far right one also looks a little bit used (or maybe its just my imagination) coz it has darkish streaks all over - or my other theory is that its just the wood...

I haven't tried it yet, but is there anything wrong with it or is this normal?

When I played JAVA's, that happened to me all the time. It's just the cane, no real significant differences.

Reeds are a natural product, cane has inconsistencies and discolorations, therefore so do reeds.
