Hello there fellow Amatiites (I may have just invented a new species).:D
Just bought this off Ebay on a whim and was wondering if anyone could throw some light on what model it might be, I don't have it yet so I can't tell you what the serial number is but the seller hinted it was about 20 years old.
So, student model, intermediate or pro grade ??

Mike,
Is there any other writing/engraving/numbers on the instrument?
Just guessing I would suspect it might be a Super Classic Deluxe, which Amati called an intermediate horn. It sure looks good in your photo.
How does it Play?

Hello Dennis,
I don't know how it plays yet, I have not received it yet, I think I will contact the seller to try to get more information on it, serial number etc. It does look nice though, quite a thick rim on the bell by the looks of it, and quite a nice engraving from what I can see. It looks solid enough too !!

Should be a model number like ats23 or something similar somewhere on it.

Age is probably about right. It's the same model as the B&H 400, Lafleur Powertone et al. Solidly built student model, but nothing special.

From the picture, It looks exactly the same as my Corton Super. Same keys, same key gaurds, same bell brace etc. Just different engraving. Should play really well although the left hand G# etc is a bit of a stretch.

to tazonsax: Are you sure, that serial number of your Amati saxophone is 305xxx? Maybe Amati did misprint.
I want to create Amati serial number database and I am sure, that Amati saxophones about 1960 has normally SN 32xxx (one number less). SN 305xxx is at around 1993.
I down't know, because Amati have very few information. I complete dbses about Amati from descriptons from happy players on the Amati saxes.
I have incomplete information about Amati saxophones (company didnt communicate with players), may be I am wrong.

to Mate1984: I mean about 1961.
Amati Lignatone Classic have heavy fingering for left little finger. I don't know how I say it, but this sax have once key for c# and g#, not two key.

+1 looks like the Amati I first bought in about 1990, an ATS21
I'm sad that I sold that horn only 3 years after and stopped playing. I'd love to buy it back, now that I can actually play at a half decent level this time around
