:Rant:I've tried 4 Dukoffs on bari,a couple of D6s,a D7 and a D8 and all of them have been more or less useless pieces of metal. All of them leaked and only one of them,a D6 produced some kind of sound, the rest were VERY ankward and hard to play, the D8 hardly produced any kind of sound at all, with some reeds I couldn't get a single sound out of this "mpc"! I measured all of them and altough they were supposed to be different sizes, they all measured around .090-.105.Some had VERY wide tiprails, clearly just filed, maybe to make them more open but these were new pieces so this must have been done in the factory.I'm amazed that Dukoff has the nerve to sell these pieces of Metalite as "bari mouthpieces".Some tenor and alto versions work pretty well but the bari versions are awful and useless.I even thought of e-mailing Dukoff about this, someone should :x

I played Dukoff on bari back about 15 or so years ago and it played great. I wish I hadn't sold it. My only recent experience with them was alot like what you describe.Maybe Dukoff has gone the way of Link.

Links are still better made than these bari Dukoffs I've tried. The variation on tip openings is amazing: a D8 I measured was .105 and its supposed to be .125! and the tiprail on this piece was about .080 inches! Bari Dukoffs are just blanks that need to be refaced completely.

Yeah and I bet they cost way too much. Did you try them on trial from WWBW or someplace like that?

LBAJazz, for pieces that hardly produce a sound at all they cost way too much.I got the D8 from Myatts in the UK.I'll send it back,I ordered a D9 anyway, they sent me a wrong piece.I hope the new one will turn out to be better.

Mojobari, that D7 did need some work,it didn't play well,I think I told you that.Really looking forward to try out the bari RIA.If the bari D9 turns out to be another paperweight,I'll send it to you for some work,I like the way the bari Duk looks on your page.

To be on the fair side,I have to add that I finally a received a D9 for bari which actually plays quite well.Tip and rails are nice, this is a good one.Tip opening is smaller than it should be,its .125 but D9 is supposed to be .135.The sound is bit darker than I expected but its has nice Pepper Adams-type of tone.Plays quite easy too. This was 6th Dukoff I've tried on bari and the first one that plays.
