Hello all! How are you all doing today? Has anyone heard of saxophonist David Sanborn? David is one of my all-time favorite artists – his sax skills are amazing! It’s been 3 long years since he’s put out an album, but his new one is coming out August 12th, which I absolutely cannot wait for! If you haven’t heard of him, check him out and let me know what you think! http://www.myspace.com/davidsanbornband.

Nope, no one's ever heard of him…
Of course, Sanborn is legendary. Welcome to the board.

welcome to SOTW
I'm sure very few haven't heard of Mr Sanborn! He's got a legendary sound that even non-musicians will appreciate as one of the best. Thanks for the link, it'll make my corporate finance revision a bit more bearable!

Hi Leslie! I enjoyed your post. :)
Leslie, David is very well known. In fact, if you do a quick search using the search function above, I think you will be surprised at how much discussion there is about him. And you're right, he is amazing.
I first noticed him when I was listening to a recording of Linda Ronstadt's "Ooh Baby, Baby" and was amazed at how the sax player in the background could just pull at your heart strings with his playing. Later I found out that it was Sanborn.
I saw him last year live in a small venue and it was awesome. The guy's great.

In my opinion he has the most instantly recognizable sounds. You always know it's him the minute he starts playing. I love the fact that he doesn't try to play "pretty" he just plays with emotion. Don't know if that really makes sense, but I feel that way about some of my favorite players of all time: King Curtis, Maceo Parker, Lenny Pickett & Jon Smith.

A guy who leads a band I use to play in claims to have helped Sanborn with theory and the like when both were in college. I don't know if this is true or not. The guy I know is no where near the player Sanborn is.
Leslie, I urge you to scroll through this forum. There are links to players and information about players that will blow your mind. Some you will like less than Sanborn and some will make you say "Sanborn who?"
Oh and welcome to the forum. You will learn a great deal here. I know I have and I suspect that I could be speaking for every one on this site.
Enjoy the CD when you get it. I can't wait to read YOUR review.

David who?
Seems like Sanborn is the alto equivalent of Brecker as far as how instantly recognizable his tone is and also how well known and popular both are/were.
