Hi!!!!!! wow, i'm sooooo excited to finally find a decent sax discusion board!!!!!!!!! My name is tyler oakleaf, i'm from south dakota (it's not as bad as it sounds) I'm currently 15, bridging 16. Yea, i'm still a kid, but i've been doing the music thing since i was born. I'm a 9 year pianist, gone five year saxophonist, gone 2 year guitarist. I'm coming back to my roots now, and i have ALOT more knowledge of music than i ever imagined there was, also i've gained an appreciation for ALOT of different music, as well as grown to loathe some others, lol. anyways, the last six months i've been studying jazz guitar, also, a local blues/jazz band recently lost thier keyboardist and asked me if i'd fill in, add some sound on the sax, ya know. tonight's my first gig so it should be pretty good. all improv, see how i do. I hope to meet some really cool people here, i'm all for having some neat saxophonist friends. if that doesnt sound lame enough. but if any of you would like to introduce me to yourselves, or some of the other members i should know i'd be very thankful. i just cant say how happy i am to be part of this, or at least try to be.

thanks for your time, i posted this on the bio thread too, forgive me.

Well Hello tyler. Im soulsax, but you can call me Randy if ud like. Im 49 bridging 50. Im still a kid sometimes too ,and been doing the music thing since I was born also. I am the last of 3 brothers who are musicians.

Been blowing the sax pretty hard abt 24 yrs. Own a keyboard.
More for the techinical things , than bragging chops. I do play guitar. Mostly acoustic. But sax is the number one noise maker here. Done a lot of playing with the "younger generation" on and off for the past 8 years. Keep's me "open". Ur off to a good start. Keep it up! Hang in there with the jazz guitar too! You want regret it. Lot's of very experianced players here ... 8)

hey i am stephanie (15) and i started playing the sax in the 6th grade and i love doing it (i may not be the best though) i am in the band at school (marching and concert) but i want to start my own jazz band b/c my director (some times) nice but he picked a clairanet to play the 2nd sax part instead of me  (for the schools jazz band) so i thought that would be fun to start my own with some friends :USA:

Oakleaf....fill us in...how was the gig? I am in a GB band that travels around a good bit in the South East and there is absolutely no substitute for joing a band and getting some live experience. It really shows you what your strong points/weaknesses are in a hurry...hopefully the weaknesses won't happen when your standing in the spotlight. Best of luck and welcome to the forum!

Well, to introduce myself to you, and the rest of the forumers who may have seen me around, I'm Ian, SATB (and beginner flute) player in Cherry Hill, NJ. I'm first tenor/alto in just about everything here at the school, bari sax in the region jazz band, and will play soprano in our sax quartet here once it gets started next year. I've been playing sax for about 7 years, and currently study with the great Frank Mazzeo, woodwinds expert of the Philadelphia area. I'm always willing to help out anybody with any questions they have concerning the basics of playing the horn and of jazz improvisation and jazz/classical interpretation. See you around!

Hi Tyler! My name is Audrey and I'm 15. Like you, I'm the 1st sax in everything in my area (which is central NY). I plan to major in music ed. to become a teacher, hoping to be half as good as the great teachers I've had. I've been a member for a few weeks now, and it has been great. Everyone has been really kind and helpful. Do you do any competition solo festivals in your area? Here in NY we have the NYSSMA (New York State School's music Assossiation) there are levels 1 through 6 (1 easiest, 6 hardest) Yours truely is doing a 6 (yay) Well, hope to see you around, it's always nice to meet another interested and talented teen.

Wow, I never knew there were so many ppl on this forum from SD. I live in Mitchell. I moved away to MN after high school and then to Fargo, ND. I just moved back about a month ago. Anyways, I have played for 10 years (started in 5th grade). After graduating I "couldn't find time" and then regained interest about 6 months ago. Sax is the only instrument I really play. I've messed around with guitar, but haven't had as much interest like with the sax.

Hi, I'm John from way out on the left coast near San Francisco. I've been playing sax for over 30 years and let me tell you I wish something like this forum existed when I was in my teens!!! Of course, in those days you needed a huge warehouse for one computer. Anyhow I play mostly blues and R&B and will continue to do so as long as I can breath. The longer you play that horn, the more you'll enjoy it. Keep it going.

Hiya Tyler :)

I'm Kellie. I play saxophone. Well now, isn't that interesting. I'm 22 and am a little odd. I play alto, tenor, and soprano.. flute, and clarinet. I've dabbled in piano, trumpet, and guitar but really don't have the aptitude for any of of them for some reason. I tend to go in and out of favor with music. I'm a classic underachiever and always manage to screw up my schooling, get kicked out, get extremely depressed because I don't have a group to play with, come on here, ask for help, get helped out, and trip merrily along until the next big heartbreak. I've been neglecting my music lately but it seems as if I've been drawn back into it. I can't see myself doing anything else, I just gotta work on my methods a bit  . I'm really not bad, I just lose heart very easily. I've been hanging out here since Soulsax told me about it a few years ago.. maybe it was just a year ago? Maybe longer? I don't know what else to say, but that's me in a nutshell. Sax freak with a self esteem problem :P Nice to have you here and hope you enjoy your stay! :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

Ok, so I'm from Memphis, exactly two weeks away from 33 (wishing it were 23) and about to go back to school to FINALLY get my performance degree. Play professionally locally and regionally with my band, Transitt. (Enter cheap band plug here ---- www.transitt.net)
