what model SML did he play? and did he play an sml for most of his career?

Most of the photos of Hawk show him playing a Selmer. In the late '30s, he seems to be blowing a Selmer "Super", in the '40s and early '50s, he's got a Selmer BA, and from the late '50s to the end, he played a Mk6 with a metal Berg.

I do know that SML made a "Hawkins model", I think it was a variant of the rev. C? I don't beleive I've seen photo of Hawk with the SML, other than SML print ads. Perhaps he played the SML during the war years?

You mean a manufacturer named a sax after a star player who used another brand?

I think he was under contract in Europe so he had to play this style of horn when playing over there.
