What is the original key for ALTO SAX? I just got the NotePad so I don't know much. How do I transpose an existing piece to that key? Help is very much appreciated!

Eb - E flat
I'd suggest reading the help files in finale.
What key is the music you are trying to transpose in ?
From C to Eb is up six.
Sorry can't be much help.
I'm not very practiced at transposing to Eb, used to transposing to Bb.
A few links that may be helpful

If you have something already entered in Note Pad you can transpose it by using the "key signature tool" which is a small box on the upper row with two flats showing. When you change the key the notes will also move.

I know how to transpose from concert to Eb. I just need to know the original key for CONCERT NOTATION, AND for ALTO SAX. I was wondering if the one i got in concert C is the original key for concert...

When I just saved my NotePad file, another file appears next to it in my documents. It's a BAK file. What is it?

That one always appears when you save your files. Not to worry about that one.

Did you figure it out? This is a great song to learn how to transpose in Finale. This is a fun song to play and it sounds great. As always Yamahaaltoplayer, let me know if you need anything.

Thanks, Pure Magic. You're awesome! No I did not write it out. I deleted it because I could plat the whole song because I'm learning altissimo. No matter what key I transpose it, It always has at least a note of two out of MY range. I did not want to play an octave higher or lower. So I'll concentrate on getting in the ECS Junior All-City band for now.:D

I don't know where I have to write, so I'll write here, sorry.
Hello,
I've been using Finale Note Pad for several years, and I find it very good. However, I must write a partition that includes grace notes. My problem is that I can't write them on the partition. I've found a keyboard shortcut, which seems to be the only option, but this shortcut doesn't work, or at least, I don't get the good result. The shortcut I found is by clicking on Help, then Keyboard Shortcuts. Then we arrive on a page at the bottom of which is written TOC, Index, Search. We have to click on Index and go to Grace notes, and then Maestro Font. The note I'm speaking about is called Slashed Grace Note. That is where my problem: When I type the shortcut Alt+0201, the grace note doesn't appear. Could you explain me how I could do to include this note, and the steps to write Alt+0201, if the problem is there?
Thank you:

Many programs create a BAK (short for backup) file each time you resave
your work. Often this is an option you can turn off or on.
Some CAD programs make regular backup files at time intervals that you
select.
The point of these backup files is that you can always go back to an earlier
version of your work just by renaming the BAK file extention to what your
particular software requires.
This is useful, if for example, you accidently save the file after making
only tempory or experimental changes. Or if your work file gets lost
or corrupted. The programs that save on a timed interval are useful
when you have made a lot of changes, not resaved, and suddenly you
get a power cut or your computer crashes. That way you don't lose
possibly hours of work.

Thank you:
The best I've been able to do in notepad: The Maestro font is available in the text tool. First click on the button with the capital A. You'll notice a new menu item across the top: Text. Click on it, then choose "Font..." from the dropdown. Scroll and choose Maestro and select a size, then click OK.
Then, move the mouse pointer above the measure where you want the note, and click. A text box will appear. Hold down the alt key and type 0201 on the keypad (always use the keypad for alt designations). You're note should appear inside the text box. Then, resize it, if necessary, and move it into position on the staff. It will look a little funky in the interface, but when you print, it will look fine.
If this is clear as mud, reply, and I'll try again.

Thank you very much, I tried, but I get an E with an accent, and not a note.
Maybe I did something wrong, but I don't know what.
Thank you anyway

Try the other Alt key--the one on the right side (seriously). And don't forget to use the keypad instead of the numbers across the top.

edit: also, instead of one click to get the text box to appear, it is a double click. Also, make sure you are using the text tool and not the one for lyrics.

In fact, I didn't click on Maestro.
Thank you very very much, that's kind of you.

Hello,
I've downloaded the demo of the Finale Notepad 2009 version, the one we have to pay for. I should normally be able to change the time signature in the middle of the score, but I haven't found out how yet. Do you know?
Thank you

There's no altissimo in Careless Whisper if you play it on alto? :s

If you use musescore instead of Notepad, it will show you which notes require expert skills (highlighted in yellow) and which notes are out of the range based on the instrument you have selected. I also like it a lot better than Notepad, it's free, and doesn't have annoying restrictions like the inability to create a pickup measure.

I don't need a computer to tell me what notes are out of the normal range on a saxophone. The highest note is a high C# (or E/F# depending the register you choose to play the "I'm never gonna dance again" part in and how you choose to play it). I haven't heard a version yet that plays the song in altissimo range.

I was just pointing out that it is a useful feature when transposing a song so you can tell at a glance after telling Musescore to transpose a song to say, Alto sax or Tenor sax you can see which notes will require altissimo or won't be playable at all. In addition, what if you are transposing a piece that is written for your sax and you want to transpose it to another instrument that you aren't familiar with so a friend can play it, knowing if it will be out of his instruments range is useful. That feature, along with all the other capabilities of Musescore, such as being able to insert a grace note simply by dragging it from the note toolbar, the ability to use pickup measures, full midi and musicXML import/export (for free), and in the latest version the ability to output your scores as sound files, are the some of the reasons I recommend Musescore over Finale Notepad.

So, on Finale Notepad, if it's in concert key I need to use the key signature button and change it to E Flat Major to transpose it to Alto Sax?
