I'd snap that up in a minute. He died way too soon. K

Dee Dee Bridgewater did an hour long documentary on NPR, showcasing his songs, (played in full), from different parts of his career along with how he created them, and some information of his life here and there.

I tried to search for it here; http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=10208861
But maybe they haven't archived it yet.

But maybe they haven't archived it yet.You won't find it in Jazz Profiles if it was narrated by Dee Dee Bridgewater. Her regular radio show is called JazzSet (which used to be hosted by Branford Marsalis). Jazz Profiles is Nancy Wilson's show.

I couldn't find any JazzSet show that was all devoted to Michael Brecker, but maybe the Bridgewater thing wasn't part of her regular NPR gig. It's weird, though, because NPR is pretty much archiving everything of that sort now.

There was a tribute to Brecker on Weekend Edition Sunday after he died, where Pat Metheny and Herbie Hancock talked with Lian Hansen about their last recording sessions with Brecker (Pilgrimage): http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=10459940

Of course, a written biography would be a whole different thing. More depth, more juxtaposition of the life, the work, and the various times he lived through.

Thanks for the radio links, some of my favourite brecker is from 'way back', the first album by 'Dreams' with Billy Cobham on it, not heard it for years, I have it on cassette somewhere, will have to dig it out (I remember it being cheesy but in a good way, also the Magritte pastiche cover/sleeve was 'cool')

I'd certainly welcome a biography of this jazz great. I also can't help but wonder if there are some unreleased or alternate takes somewhere that might get released in the future.

When a book comes out, I want one.

Maybe Bill Milkowsky, (he wrote Jaco's bio) is interested. I really wouldn't know who is the best person to do this.

I do have a lot of material which was printed in magazines etc, but it would involve a lot of interviews with musicians and family. Lots of work, but I'd buy it of course...

I think Tim Price could write a great book on Mike Brecker. He is a very good writer and could offer the kinds of musical insights most of us would want.

I've often thought it would be great to have biographies of musicians/composers/conducters and etc accompanied with a set of CD's that included a chronological look at the artist especially with featured performances mentioned in the book(s). Even though I own a lot of the artists work or soemtimes their complete recorded works I would probably buy it just to listen to in the period I was reading it.
