Hello,
I live in West Virginia, and I'm looking for a good place to take my horn for an overhaul. I'm willing to go as far west as Columbus, and probably as far into PA as Pittsburgh. I probably won't be able to get the overhaul until summer, so I'm not too worried about driving a couple hours. If nothing else, who would be a good person to ship my YTS-62 to (anywhere)? I'd prefer drop it off myself, though.
Thanks

There are some posts here about good techs at Volkwein's in Pgh. - check in this same forum.

If you're able to go as far as the DC area, I HIGHLY recommend Eric Beach. He's worked on 5 of my horns so far (2 clarinets, alto, c-melody, and tenor) and I'm entirely happy with the results. In particular, I was very impressed with the modifications he made on my 1919 c-melody. They made a night and day difference on that horn. I was giving serious consideration to trading it for another horn several months ago. But, Eric's work improved my c-mel so much that I decided to keep it. The old horn really wails now! Eric's shop is in Kensington, Maryland....not far from the Beltway. His phone number is 301-946-2478. Good luck!

My vote goes for Jim Germann at Volkwein's. He worked with Oleg for a while in LA, and really does a thorough job on getting a horn to speak its best. JG could take a Bundy 2 and give it the ability to sound like a Mark VI. He's done 4 Selmers and 1 Couf for me and they all play incredibly well.

Tim Stemple at Stemple Music in Jeannette, PA (next to Greensburg) does a wonderful job at a decent price. He also guarantees a 1 week turnaround.

Where in WV?
I used to go to Ben Cook, who was based in Beckley. He has since moved out of the city of Beckley, but I believe is still in the area. He does the best work I have ever found in WV.....I just hope he is still in business. He wanted to retire the last time I talked with him, which was about 2 years ago.
BTW, he is a Conn factory trained repairman...a real fount of knowledge too. He's the guy that got me into the "art" of saxophones.
