I'm about to lose this neotech plastic piece of crap... It's gotten a lot of use outta these 4 or so years I've had it but it's comin apart and about a year ago it started pullin away at the hook, making it so if I let my bari rest just right it would snap out and I could nearly drop my bari. This is one of the spring loaded ones where you pull back and it opens up, I had one of those hard clip ones where you push down on the lock and that one let's my bari drop if I don't hold it. I need a good neckstrap that aint gonna really break like this one did... I have a harness but... it's really embarrasing to wear altho it really does take away from the weight =)

My favorite strap is the Brancher sold by saxforte.com.

I use the Whitman Spinstrap. It goes over the shoulder (you can use either shoulder, or switch shoulders) and around the torso. I initially bought it for tenor, but found it works much better with the bari sax.

The harness I had did that same pulling thing with the clip you mentioned..I forget what brand it was. It was really nice the one day I used it (which was a 5hr marching practice =\) And I was enjoying the "what in the.."s as I walked past :P (my school hasn't marched baris for a looong time, so no baris ever really "needed" a harness before me)

Now I use this nice strap with thick padding and a clip my director saw and named "the claw", again I can't find the brand :x . I was about to get just another neotech one when I had found it kinda hidden

Anyway, anyone else ever had a clip just snap? 3 years ago one snapped on me right after a performance. A Neotech one snapped on me earlier this year during a marching rehearsal. Maybe I just have bad luck

it's not bad luck mine's very close to snapping as it is... It's very annoying. The clips and plastic stuff just aren't strong enough to hold up the bari sax unless you're holding it constantly which isn't always possible, like say if you're playing a song where you have to clap, do a percussion instrument, etc etc.

As for the strap, change the name from "The Claw" to "The Bra", and you'll get a shiz load of laughs it's good stuff! It really does help a lot for marching I was able to march this year in our VMB even tho I have 2 ribs that are out of their sockets(one on each side, they rub funny and hurt bad occasionally)

The Whitman Spinstrap is great and it really gets all the pressure off of your neck. It also is as quick on and off as a neck strap. Works well for me. Happy New Year everyone

I've been using the Walt Johnson strap some recently for practicing bari and I'm growing to like it. It's an over-the-shoulder like the Whitman, but it only costs $16.95 including postage. It has a really great metal clip that seems indestructo. I have found that it's more comfortable worn the other way from the picture (over the right shoulder and under the left pit)

This weekend I was getting some parts to fix my car and I saw some sheepskin seat belt covers for $7.99...I bought one and put it on the Walt Johnson sling...huge difference!! It's just a 12" long sleeve of sheepskin with some velcro closure...very comfortable strap pad.

Anyone try the dual-shoulder strap sold on Saxquest?

I've found the Slider harness to be the most comfortable when standing and performing on stage. Spreads the weight evenly. Has a leather equalizer in back to stabalize tension. However it doesn.t swing to the side for sitting comfortably. Thats where the over the sholder strap, as previously mentioned, works for concert play. You have to decide if looking cool or being comfortable is important and which situation possitions the sax right for you.

ONYXSAX,
I purchsed a Spinstrap on the basis of your posting, and WoW. It is the best that I have ever used. I have tried the over shoulder, over both shoulders, over shoulder and under one arm, over both shoulders and under both arms. By far this is the most comfortable and friendly strap I have ever used. No Kidding! It is worth every penny of the $40.00.

I'm posting this here, because us bari players have a different perspective on straps. (Yeah, all you alto and tenor players have no business complaining about a heavy horn... ;) )

My Selmer bari came with a nice strap. Padded, with a metal non-locking clasp. Problem is, the slider was plastic and that snapped after a year of heavy use.

I never use locking clasps anymore on the bari. My loop is quite small. Plastic clasps tend be quite thick they inevitably get turned around, jammed, and gouge the lacquer. (The Selmer also came with a Ray Hyman, a terrible knife-shaped hook that barely fits through the loop and will kill the lacquer.) So back to simple metal hooks for me. Are there any straps that have locking clasps, but are narrow enough to not get jammed in the loop?

These days I'm using a plain strap I use for alto, and it works, but occasionally my back won't like it, and I'll be in a little bit of pain after a long rehearsal. Never a problem with the old Selmer strap.

It looks like the Brancher will do the trick...

I used to play bari constantly and the bouncy Neotech strap worked well. Nowadays I use the Oleg ergonomic for everything. I just wear it upside-down (so that the Oleg logo is upside-down when worn), it seems to be a lot more comfortable that way.

I second the Oleg ergonomic. Doug James recommended it to me and it works great for both Bari and Tenor.

For a bari, I like the BG yoke strap - it has a nice shaped leather strap over the shoulders. There are variations with straps that go over your shoulders to your belt, and also harnesses that some people like. Personally, I prefer to be able to adjust my position and find the harness too restrictive. Neotechs might feel comfy, but you don't want your horn bouncing relative to your embouchure.

I've been using the Wiseman Strap for Tenor and Baritone for 2 years now. Don't let the price fool you, with the quality of these straps you'd think they'd be more like $60.00 http://www.wwbw.com/Wiseman-Instrument-Straps-i94118.music If I remember right, their made in England. Never had a problem with the clasp hook or any other part of it. Super comfort.
