A local shop has an old YTS-62 serial # around the 11XXX. It needs work( it has rubber bands hold some stuff togther), but the body is in good shape. Basically, it needs an overhaul. What would be a good price to offer? I need a back up tenor so I don't have to haul my fancier one everywhere. Thanks.

My rule of thumb is to estimate the value of the sax once it is overhauled and then subtract the cost of the work required. The 62's in good condition are selling for around $1500 on Ebay. A repad and mechanical overhaul in a good shop can run as much as $800 (or more) on a pro tenor. Using that formula $700 would be a "fair" price. Anything less than that would be a bargain IMO.

Thanks. That's about what I had in mind.

On eBay, an older YTS-62 in good condition will usually bring around $1500. For a bargain, I'd offer $600 to $800. A top notch repad/regulation in my area is about $400. If the same is true in your area, that would give you a playing horn for $1200 or less. And that sounds like a good deal to me.
EDITED: Me and JBTSax posted at about the same time so I didn't see his post before posting mine. All I can say is that great minds think alike.
