Are there any places besides eBay where I might find white vintage selmer mouthpieces just like the one Charlie Parker so famously made famous?

Don't think it was a Selmer--I believe it was a Brilhardt Tonalin.

Most likely you're thinking about the Brilhart Tonalin Streamline
that he played. I'm not aware that he played any other white
mouthpiece. Selmer did buy the Brilhart name, but those particular
pieces haven't been made for decades AFAIK.

They're not exactly common, but not nearly as sought after as
Florida Links. They run $150 to $250, depending.

Good Luck.

Actually, if you go to www.saxquest.com, they have (or at least, HAD as of last night) some Brilhart Tonalin alto mouthpieces. The prices range from $235-$315. Doc Tenney put a band on the shanks to prevent them from cracking (a common problem with vintage Brilharts).

I have two Tonalins that I bought new many years ago. One is a 4* with serial # 021467. The other is a 5* which has no serial #. I might be willing to sell. The condition of each is virtually new with the exception that the biteplate on the 4* has started to raise slightly near the tip from age, not from being played. I can be reached at piks57@comcast.net. This is not a fire sale, so serious inquiries only please.

I've read that Parker also played on a (white?) Runyon. Probably others too that may not have been captured on film.

I've always heard that the white mpc that Parker played was the Streamline Tonalin. I imagine it's quite a different animal than a regular Tonalin. I have a Streamline 6 Ebolin alto that just rips, much louder and in your face than any other Brilhart I've played but I've not compared it side to side with a comparably faced Brilhart piece.

Try Jay Clark @ <mouthpiece.com> . He's always got stuff like that.
Tell him Lenny sent you

A lower cost (because less rare) alternative to the black patch Tonalin is the Personaline Tonalin (round woodgrain look tooth patch - different shank, less crack-prone). Usually available for $60 or less.

The white bakelite Buescher True-Tone mpcs (gold stamped logo - made by Runyon) also remind me a lot of Tonalins. They're even a little freer-blowing, and are cheaper yet.

Parker played a Tonalin - that`s fact. But has anyone tried the old white Selmer Goldentone MPs? GREAT!!
