Recently visited Rheuben Allen in LA. He is simply a fantastic repair person with very reasonable pricing. Also, always good for a story or two. I sat around waiting for him to fix my horn and it was very neat chatting with him. I would highly recommend him.
Lik a good physician, he treated not just the illness but also the patient. I had this really crappy looking Buffet tenor that I got off eBay. The horn looked like it was dug up from some nuclear waste site, but he reassured me that it was a fantastic and valuable horn--and not a bad buy at my original pricing. I felt a lot better afterwards. Sure enough, the horn played strong after he fixed it up. He even helped me lug my horns to the car.
My hearty thanks to Dave Dolson for the original referral.
