Assume you need to take a break in a long practice session, let say a 2 to 3 hours session. How long you need to take this break - 5 minutes? 10 minutes or 15 minutes ?

I try to take an extended break (for lunch usually) after about an hour and a half. Then do the balance after the break.
I also take about 10 minutes mid-way in each session. I check e-mails, or attend to other business, then come back refreshed.

For a break during long practice sessions I just come on here and post for awhile. Whenever I feel like my embouchure (usually what drives me to stop in the first place) is back to normal I resume playing. Probably a beginner would need an hour or so, whereas some guys would spend 5-10 minutes soaking a reed and then be back on the sax. It varies greatly for me, I just play when I feel ready again.

I hear ya on the breaks, Being a newbie my lip gets sore so I take breaks every once in a while to rest it then Im back at it. probably 10 minutes most of the time. I guess it depends on your lip and the time you have to spare :D
