Recently acquired a cheap new Planet Wave strap that operates on the same principle as my old Brilhart. Cotton band about 1" wide, with two pieces of cord string running through a "quick-adjust" button, to a curvy little coated hook.
The PW is comfortable and seems to function as designed, but slips when I hook my tenor to it. I'm wondering if this is just because it is new, or perhaps a fatal defect. Is there anything, a treatment of some kind, that can be applied to the cord to keep it from slipping without eventually clogging the adjust-button?
In any case, too scary to "break it in", so I'm back to my ageless Brilhart for now.
Hmm... I've never had any problems with mine slipping like that. I've had it for at least a year, and I use it with my SML tenor (which is fairly heavy).

Maybe I should've bought their high-end strap, the one with the leather instead of the cotton band (although I assume the cord strings are the same material regardless).
This strap is slipping less than it did when I started using it a few days ago. Maybe it'll turn out okay ... just that I'm too scared to use it much as-is.
Oh sorry - missed that part. Mine is the leather one, but I think you're right that the cords are probably the same.

My PW has the soft leather neck strap. It doesn't slip at all and is very comfortable. I only wish I'd bought two when Mars went byebye.

Mine does not slip at all-I have 3 of them.
They are very nice and comfy.

I bought the cheaper version a while back. It does not slip with soprano or alto but slips with tenor. I really like it for alto.

In the interest of science, I whacked the slider on mine with a 2-pound shop hammer and used a large needle to work some kinks into the cord.
Something mojo here because it works better now and only slips along a small 2-inch segment.
