Hi everyone! We've added a great new thumb hook to MusicMedic.com. I've been adding them to horns when doing Pro-tenor overhauls they really have helped the feel of the instruments. The added piece of brass on the side of the thumb hook is great rest for the tip a ones thumb and seems to ease tension in the Right hand.

A word of warning: sometimes you have to move the mounting plate a good distance from the original spot to get the most comfy result.[/url]

Maybe the mounting position is the answer. I bought one of these from Ponzol a few years ago, and have yet to find any horn that it works on...have tried: Keilwerth alto, tenor, bari, and Selmer tenor, soprano and Cannonball alto, tenor. I also recently tried replacing a thumbhook (on Keilwerth bari) with a piece of sorbothane glued to the mount...I like this very much and may experiment more.

Hey, that's interesting sounds like I can learn from your experience. I got these thumb hooks in and sent some out right away on instruments with no problems. I put a few on Series II selmer tenors without a problem. Can you elaborate on that? Is the problem that you had of a mechanical nature meaning that the thumb hook somehow does not fit? Or, does it just not feel right to you?

I'm importing these and can certainly work with the manufacturer.

Sorry about the misleading nature of my post. While it did not mount on older Keilwerth stencils at all (Couf Superba and Conn DJH) and the newer Modell Ponzol (these all have a screw and guide slot arrangement), it did mount fine on the Selmers and Cannonballs, and on other horns with Selmer replacement hooks soldered on. I didn't like the way it fit my hand, and that is what I was mainly referring to...the hook was a little short and wouldn't tilt over enough to clear my thumb; also I felt the flat segment pushed my hand into an awkward position. I have right thumb problems anyways because of a severe hand injury 35 years ago (awkh!! was it that long??). Just didn't work for me...my daughter didn't like it on her Cannonballs either...could just be a matter of personal preference.

Thanks for clearing that up. I have used one and really like it. I have a few clients that are praising it as well. I imagine you're right, it's a matter of personal preference.
