Has anyone tried this? I'd like to try one of the new '54 solid silver necks on my Mark 6 tenor (the original neck ain't quite right, and I have a fancy Barone neck that works well, though it's more of a high arch design).
Of course at almost $700, that opens the door to Gloger and Boesken too, doesn't it?

i have tried this. my opinion is ref 54 necks are just ok and kind of bland sounding. they sound best on reference 36/54 horns. the solid silver ref 54 neck sounds pretty good with rubber mouthpieces but sounds horrible with brass link type metal mouthpieces. the silver has a very distinct tonal spectrum all its own that is very sweet sounding but without alot of depth.
i have a copper boesken model 66 that is a much better neck.

I tried it too both with alto and tenor. Doesn't work.
Try a Yanagisawa sterling neck on a MK VI...WOW!

I had a Silver Yamaha M1 neck fitted to my MKVI. Great match.

I sometimes use a standard Ref 54 neck on a Mark VI: it makes the sound more focused but less rich. Some days I prefer it to the original neck, some days I don't.
